An appeal for help from L’Europe des Levriers. Floods are submerging Andaloucia; more than 1500 people have been evacuated from their houses. At Cordoba, the river Guadalquivir has burst its banks and Seville and Jaen are threatened. And the weather forecast is for more rain.
The refuge of our friend Alberto, near Cordoba is under 2 metres of water and he has had to evacuate all his dogs to a garage to keep them dry. The tempest Xynthia has caused serious flooding problems in Spain this year.
Some of the galgos which we had to leave behind at the kennels in Madrid at the beginning of February have also had to be evacuated as everything is damp and the dogs risk dying. Cristina is searching for other kennels for the dogs, but it costs us money for each dog each day it is in a kennels.
EDL have already sent Alberto 300 euros to rent the garage for his dogs, and 100 euros to another 3 of the poorest refuges, notably at Jaen. It’s not much money, but we have to send what we can.
Next week president of L’Europe des Levriers Beatrice Monnet and another rescue team are travelling to Madrid, Cordoba, Jaen and Salamanca to try and help the volunteers.
Click here if you can send a donation towards helping pay for kennels and garages until the refuges can be repaired.
Thank you on behalf of all the poor dogs, who have already suffered abandonment by their masters, and who now suffer dying from hypothermia caused by the flooding of their shelters.
NB Just a comment from me – what are the municipal and provincial councils doing to help – I know that human life comes before animals in their priorities, but they should be doing something towards the poor refuges too……………..

What a nightmare. Good Luck!
