This is yet another example of the despicable heartlessness of Spanish hunters; this podenca was abandoned about a month ago in a village 90 kms from Albacete. Some people are leaving her food, but she is obviously starving to death.
These are the contact details if anyone can help get her and take her in.
TELÉFONO: 662 08 84 43
I would add that, as you will see from one of the pictures, it looks as though the podenca is inside some sort of enclosure, so I wonder why she has not been caught and taken to a refuge or dog pound already – why is she still loose? Perhaps someone in the area can explain this to me.
In the meantime, I pray she survives.

How can you do this ? You are cruel and heartless. Would not visit Spain.

Bonjour
I wish everyone who considers a holiday in Spain
would say the same as you. Then the Spanish would take some action about
the animals. Thats where they need hitting, in tourism, food products –
dont buy Spanish produce – and so on. So many Spanish do care, its
obvious from the amazing work which the rescue associations and volunteers do,
physically and emotionally draining, living with these problems all the time –
once more it is a case of the majority giving the minority a bad
name.
The associations and volunteers need all the help
they can get to help the animals. I hope you will support the campaigns I
run, and get as many of your family and friends to do the same.

Was in Barcelona once, and had always hoped to go back, but I’m afraid my recent introduction to the plight of the Galgos (after adopting a Greyhound) has COMPLETELY put me off ever visiting Spain again. And I thought things were bad for animals in the US! Good god! This is just unbelievable!!

Bonjour
If only everyone who wants to holiday in Spain
would STOP – until the suffering of the galgos and podencos is speedily brought
to an end – then something would be done. Its only by hitting the
Spanish by killing their tourism trade and refusing to purchase Spanish goods
that we can make the governmen and racing and hunting associations feel pain
too.
I apologise in advance that the marvellous people
who DO help the animals in Spain – galgos, podencos, bulls, donkeys – would
suffer too, but they suffer on behalf of the animals already.
I wish everyone would take a stand, like
you.
Please tell everyone about the plight of the galgos
and podencos, and about Galgo News. Get everyone you know to join in the
petitions which I run on Galgo News – especially the letter-writing and emailing
campaign against Aviles.

We volunteers are working hard to help these poor animals we are working with Spanish people they are not all the same , may I please say that a lot of the dogs at the moment are being abandoned by british people ,if this was not happening then we would have more time and money to help the galgos

I agree with you wholeheartedly – the British are heartless too – and not just on the mainland – in the Canary Islands too. I read on SARA Lanzarote of a poor dog who was adopted by British, discovered the joys of being a much loved and cared for pet – and then the Brits took him back to the refuge! I agree, how heartless is that. There is much more to suffering for a dog than just what the hunters do.
For myself, although I dont plan on going back to the UK, I have my dogs EU passports prepared so that, if we did have to go back, then all I have to do with our dogs is the 48 hour tick/worm treatment. Why cant the damned Brits do the same.
Maybe it is something the associations should insist on when they let Brits adopt a dog.
What do you think?
Thanks for caring, you volunteers are stars in the sky each night. When I walk my dogs last thing before bedtime, I look at the stars and thank heaven for all the volunteers who look after Spains abandoned dogs.
Thanks so much for caring, and I agree with you about the heartless Brits. No need for what they do!

Yes its spanish and english and lets not forget the morrocons also, where i have witnesses many with the new tiny cute puppy only to see running around the village 6mths later loose and unwanted. My opinion is when the english abandon their dogs they know its wrong and many feel bad (not that that makes it right of course) but they definately know its wrong, the education is inside of them and they have made a decision to do something they know is cruel and wrong for the dog. However I feel when the spanish and others do it not all them actually think its wrong, that same education isnt inside them and therefore many of them dont feel bad. They think its normal behaviour (Im speaking generally of course).
My daughters friend said to her the other day “your mum should stop saving galgos and save dogs”…. need i say anymore about how they view galgos here. That education has only come from her parents. She doesnt even know a galgo is a dog.. she thinks its vermin. My daughter being the fiesty little diva she is simply replied “oh my god, you dont even know a galgo is a dog and the most special type of dog that the egyptions worshipped”. Thats my girl and yes mummy doesnt stop telling her how special these galgos are, so much so shes already planning her path of life to be a vet and safe them all.
WE NEED EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS HERE. If we leave it to the parents dont expect anything to change soon.
Another example. We were in Murcia the day listening to the music on a bright sunny day and an injured pigoen approaches us. My kids horrified they throw him bits of bread and ask if we take him to the vet. Then passes a spanish family, all dressed up in their best gear which is traditional on a sunday here, walking along completely civilised and then what to their kids do…. they run at the pigoen and try kicking it to death, no response by the parents just a simple “vamos” (lets go). The pigoen wasnt hurt as thank goodness he got away but why werent the parents horrified that inside their kids is a deep need to injure or kill an innocent creature?
