3 galgas in Murcia, Spain, looking for forever homes – can you adopt one?

Tina Solera Guapita 03 2010 250 After the story of the blind galga touched so many hearts, here are updates on the other 3 galgas at Los Infiernos shelter in Murcia, where Tina is a volunteer. Here’s a reminder of Sandy, Lali and Guapita.

Guapita is approx 2 years old. Her beauty took my breath away and when I was told she had been sleeping rough on the road outside my friend’s house I could not rest until I caught her. She is extremely shy but has a hidden spirit where I can see she is waiting to burst out and show her true potential.

However she is frightened she will be hurt again and is scared to take a risk with her heart. Who can gain her trust and win her over? As she is microchipped and in amazing condition I think she was once in a loving adult home only to be abandoned and left to fend for herself.

Tina Solera Lali 0210 250 Lali approx 3yrs had been wandering our village streets for at least 3 weeks. It took me this long to catch her. She has been in the refuge a few months now and is breaking out with confidence. She runs to me for cuddles when she sees me and I think is ready to give her heart to someone. She is strong physically and mentally she is getting there also.

Guapita and Lali will be spayed this week, Guapita is also microchipped.

Tina Solera Sandy 250 Sandy approx 8 years old and arrived at our refuge pregnant. 5 out of the 7 puppies died. She previously belonged to gypsies who no longer wanted her. Her poor body is covered in scars, I always feel sad when I see them and create horrible images in my head to how they occured. After a long time in the refuge she is still timid, altho with those she knows well she welcomes a kiss and a cuddle. Sandy is microchipped, vaccinated and blood tested, with negative results for Mediterranean diseases. Please can someone donate the money to have Sandy spayed next.

Contact Tina about the galgas and also to donate by Paypal to the refuge and spaying tinasolera@hotmail.co.uk

    Bonjour
Thats lovely to know, Tina. There are a lot of GN people rooting for you and the dogs. Lets hope some adoptants come forward too.
Id adopt them all, if I could.
You volunteers at Los Infiernos are stars for what you do.

Thank beryl and just to let you know another 30 has just been donated. So we nearly have enough now for Sandy to be spayed also. Fantastic!!

  4. Beryl Brennan avatar

Wonderful, people have such warm hearts, especially for the galgos who suffer so much. I hope the response to the posts on GN have given you renewed emotional strength to carry on, I know you were despairing after the problems with Guapita not being able to live with children.
Keep strong, everyone is rooting for you.

Yes, feeling better now that I can see she is recovering and settling, altho still very timid. Then of course the two new ones I found yesterday, they are so full of joy and confidence it makes a real change and has definately lifted spirits and of course all the generous donations towards spaying has me delighed!!
… whilst typing this i had a call to say esperanza can not travel today. the transport company have sent her back to the refuge saying she is too ill to travel. I will update when I know more.

  6. Beryl Brennan avatar

Thats really sad news. What do they say is wrong with her?
Is the transport co is MRW, who usually organise the dog transports around Spain.
    Keep us all posted.

Yes its MRW. when I saw her this morning she had an open wound on her shoulder which confused me as that wound looked well and truely closed before. They said because of that and that she didnt look well enough to go. The poor girl, all that stress this morning for nothing. Galgos112 have said they will try again in the next few days. Her home still awaits her.
Im taking Guapita in tomorrow morning to be spayed. Next lali (funds covered) and now I almost have enough for Sandy. x

Poor galga. Does the vet not come and visit
the dogs before they travel, and mark on the passport that they are fit to do
so? All EDL dogs which we bring out have the vets stamp in the passport to
confirm they are fit to travel.
Keeping fingers crossed for her too.

Hopefully by the end of the week some funds I’ve transferred from my bank a/c to my Paypal a/c will be available and I can then send you £50. The rescue I’m associated with in the UK wants to donate £200 to your work too, once again the money will have to be transferred from a bank a/c to my Paypal a/c before I can send it to you, which will take 7-10 days but at least you know you will have these funds shortly.
    Regards
    Suzie

That really is fantastic Suzie and thank You so much. I will be keeping all my reciepts for all the work done using donated money. As we are a registered charity we also have a book of accounts which are always ready to view if need be. With so many people being so generous I just wanted to let them know that every penny is going towards the greyhounds. Suzie i sent you a personal mail also. Thanks again. Big hug. xx
Guapita was spayed yesterday and I picked her up this morning. Poor thing, her tail is on her tummy, she just doesnt know what is happening but I may be able to announce some good news for her soon. xx

Thats really great news and very kind of you to
give to help Tina, Linda and Los Infiernos prepare the galgos for hopeful
rehoming away from Spain and their vulnerability – the hunting season soon comes
    round again.
The donations, and the successful rehoming of
Brunita, Azbakah and Esperanza must have given everyone at the refuge a lift, to
    know so many people care.
Now we just need forever homes for thes galgas, and
the two you caught the other day, and Lindas puppies?

Tina – first £50 payment made by Paypal today, with a further £400 to follow once the transfer of these funds to my Paypal a/c is completed, another 7-10 days.
Beryl – someone from the UK rescue I’m involved with has matched the amount the rescue itself is donating, and hopefully that will give Tina and the others at Los Infiernos enough to cover the costs involved with the galgos currently mentioned on GN.
    Cheers

    Dear Suzie
That is absolutely fantastic, it will do so much
for Tina and Linda and the others who are trying so hard, under great emotional
and financial strain, to care for the galgos – and other dogs.
You, every one of you who has donated, is
    amazing.
And Charl has received a donation to buy the dog
trap she needs to catch the Estepona galga
As for me, I am just so humbled by the wonderful
people out there, who read my posts on Galgo News, and who care so much about
the galgos and podencos and volunteers who work year in and year out because the
hunters will not regulate their sport and stop this problem.
You are all wonderful, and I am blessed to have
such amazing caring people reading my posts, and taking action.
    I am truly humbled.

    Hi Tina
£400 donation made by Paypal. Fortunately the funds cleared from my bank account to my Paypal account sooner that I anticipated so I was able to send it to you today.

    Hi Suzie
Your donation to help the galgas at Los Infiernos will be really appreciated and you can rest assured Tina will use it for the spaying and neutering and vaccinations etc. All she needs now is for people to offer these beautiful deserving dogs their forever homes.
Dont forget my offer, if you choose to go down that route.
Thanks for supporting in this way, and for reading Galgo News.

hi Beryl and Suzie, let me give you the good news that guapita and sandy have been accepted to go to Belguim where their new homes await them. This is thanks to Noahs Arc who have helped with getting them these homes. It could not have been done without the donations of all the generous donaters as the conditions were I had them spayed and fully vaccinated and tested. I cold have met those conditions without this money and therefore Noahs arc may not have been able to help. So thank you everyone and Noahs arc for helping these galgas.
Suzie, i have sent you a mail. This 430 euros is going to ensure every dog can be prepared. I dont know how to say thanks properly. George and the shelter are amazing. Thank you and a big hug from all out galgos. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Hi Tina
This is the most fantastic news and I am happy for you. It just shows the power of the Internet and the wonderful caring people who so want to help the galgos.
Now I await the info about the 2 boys you picked up on the school run!
Bless you for having the strength to carry this through. Be sure you have so many supporters behind you, and Suzie and Tailends has certainly won a medal too.

Hi, My friend has done the photos (as still no camera) and I asked politely today if she cold get them sent to me so i hope you will have them tonight. The vet saw one of them today and said he is perfect, hes tall, strong and full of confidence!! Thanks Beryl, dont forget your medal as well.. You are the one that we all come to in the first place and it all happens from there!! x

    Bonjour
Sorry, I forgot about the camera, but I have the
original 2 pix on file if you want to send brief details.
And thank you for the medal, that is one of the
nicest things anyone has said to me for ages. There are one or two people
here who used to be supporters who have now broken ranks, probably because one
likes to be in control and got stamped on! Galgo News and the plight of
the galgos filled an enormous black void in my life in France, and I am
continually overwhelmed by the results – the best one would be to change the
situation for the galgos in Spain – hopefully Ive plenty of years left in me to
keep working on helping you all towards that!

    Hi Beryl
It’s a great outcome for all the dogs but especially Sandy, as we all know how much more difficult it is to find homes for older dogs. So I think we should all feel pleased with what we’ve achieved together, but special thanks should go to Tina who is at the sharp end and having to deal with such distressing situations all the time.
Just waiting on the outcome of a job application which will determine whether I’ll be staying in London or moving to Peterborough and once I know where I’ll be living I can commit to another dog. Have asked Tina to keep me informed of any new galgas, and taking one of her dogs would mean taking you up on your kind offer.
    Cheers
