I know I am always writing about what bastards the Spanish hunters are, whether on the Spanish mainland or on the Spanish Islands – there is no excuse for the extremes of cruelty they inflict on innocent dogs at the end of every hunting season.
But let’s not forget the Brits – they moved abroad for a ‘better life’ – adopted a dog from a refuge – and now they are returning home and abandoning their dogs back to the refuges.
It’s a different type of cruelty, but mental cruelty to a dog. Why do these unfeeling Brits take a dog out of a refuge, introduce it to life as a pet and then, when things get tough, take the dog back to the refuge and go back to the UK.
This is Hondo, with SARA Lanzarote. He is only 3 years old. He was adopted from the shelter as a pup, now the Brits have gone back, and Hondo is back in the refuge. The poor dog! He has had a taste of life as a loved companion; a comfy bed, regular meals, walks…………..and instead of the Brits preparing the dog with an EU passport – all he needed was a blood test 15 days after his rabies vaccination, for goodness sake – and then he could have been ready 7 months later to travel back to the UK.
These people make me very angry too. They are heartless Brits – better to leave a dog in a refuge than give it the experience of being a pet, and then dump it back in a refuge.
I hope their life back in the UK is filled with starvation and misery.

Oh you are so right. Just look at the homepages of ACE and AIN, each with a large amount of abandoned dogs. It is unbearable. I believe that there is a special place in hell for people abusing animals.
Bonjour
It happens here in France too – I was amazed how many dogs went missing over Easter; one was a galga cross adopted through a French rescue association. When she was eventually caught after a few days on the run, the people didnt want her back!
And come June the French towns will be awash with abandoned dogs, whilst their owners go on holiday. Then in September the people will buy a puppy and the whole cycle will start again.
It all makes me so very angry!
Keep me posted on what happens on Gib.

As I commented the other day we have a lot of british dogs at Los Infernos, people just dont think about how they will get them back to the uk if things go wrong in Spain .I have wrote to the Spanish embassy in London about this and alsoabout dogs being sold in pet shops where I think a lot of Brits buy their puppies it should be banned ,I think a lot of them come from puppy farms and we all know about them.
Bonjour Linda
I agree with you. People just dont think. And so far as seeing puppies for sale in shops and supermarkets – I tell you, it takes me all my time not to have a go at the French for doing that. Its just that my coarse French language is zilch! I just try and comfort myself with the fact that at 700 and 800 euros, a lot of French would think twice about buying the puppy. But dog abandonment in France is also a problem. The difference is that the French hunters keep their hunting dogs over summer – not all in good conditions – but they dont treat them like the Spanish hunters treat their hunting dogs.
You all do such an amazing job there, your dedication to the animals is incredible.
