Galgo Sperm Bank in Zamora!

Latest news announced by the Galgo Association of Castilla y Leon is the creation of a galgo sperm bank in Zamora. They say ‘the aim is to protect the species (!) and collect semen from the best dogs’. Whilst I understand the principle behind the idea – to improve the breed – they would do better to deal with controlling the indiscriminate breeding and annual abandonment of galgos, such as is highlighted in my book. If you haven’t already done so, write to them at http://www.galgosfcyl.com. A letter in Spanish is on this link.

    Hello Beryl,
This is nothing new. The Club Nacional del Galgo Espanol, a big hunting asociation in Andalucia, have already a long time a spermbank. When you look on their website: http://www.galgoes.com then in the menu under: sementales, there you can read u.o. that a tube of sperm costs for the members of the Club 350,- Euros from which 250,- Euros is for the owner and 100,- Euros for the Club.
From the sperm which is in the bank, 75% belongs to the Club to provide to the members and the other 25%
keeps in posession of the owner in case he needs it himself. And it also says that the Club has so much confidence in its members that they may,in case they want to make puppies with their galga, contact the owner themselves! That seems a problem to me, because I think the “owner” is the dog and he cannot speak, and if they could speak, I’m sure they should not
want to put any children in this world from galgueros.
I am sure they, just like people, only want the best for their children.

    Bonjour
Thank you for this information, Im not surprised
that it is not the first club to do this.
But isnt it so frustrating that these men in power
in the clubs will not deal with the root problem of uncontrolled overbreeding of
the galgos, chucking them out on the streets to fend for themselves every
January, and ruining the lives of the dogs and the people who have to cope with
    rescuing the dogs.
How can we get it into their heads that they have
got a bad name for Spain?
Thanks for reading, posting, and the
    information.
    Amities
