If you purchase my book From Heaven to Hell – The Story of the Spanish Galgo advertised on Galgo News home page, it will explain everything to you. But, basically, the Galgo Espanol is the Spanish greyhound, used by Spanish hunters every season for catching rabbits, hare and similar. When the hunting season finishes at the end of January every year, the Spanish hunters dispose of these dogs, they hang them from trees – as in this case – drop them alive down deep wells, burn them alive with acid, abandon them on motorways, drag them behind cars – anything they feel like!
As to the question is it allowed, the basic answer is that anyone from governmental politicians through to regional, provincial and municipal policitians, mayors, racing and hunting federation members, police, judges…….you name it, they can be hunters and they are CORRUPT! And so they allow it. And if there are any proposed prosecutions against a hunter for cruelty to his galgo, then likely the judge is a relative of the hunter, or the judge is a hunter, and so there is no prosecution. The whole system is CORRUPT! There are laws which could be used to stop these atrocities but nothing is done because the whole bloody system is CORRUPT!
Those in the system who would try to help are in the minority – there are some who would help – but they are few.

Hi Beryl, can u put this article on the save the galgo face book group as i would like to share it but can’t do it from this site. It is fairly well known that here in spain there is a real problem with animal cruelty and abandoned dogs but im not sure that the scale of cruelty to the galgos and podencos every single year is quite so well known, and i would like to take every and any chance i can to let people know about it. Thanks..
