Petition to the Spanish Government – their letter in reply

Just received from Danielle, who translated my book into French.

‘I just saw this on The Animal Rescue Site, in response to a petition that was sent to Mariano Rajoy. After receiving over 30,000 signatures protesting the abuse of Spain’s greyhounds, Jorge Moragas, Director of the Office of the Prime Minister, responded with the following letter, translated into English:

Dear Madam:

On behalf of the Prime Minister, I acknowledge receipt of your letter which denounces the abusive situation that, in your opinion, hunting dogs suffer, especially greyhounds.

In this respect, I inform you that the Executive fully share their desire to eliminate any possible situation of hunting dog abuse that may occur in Spain. In this sense, in the competent bodies of the Autonomous Communities, work continues to promote and achieve the highest levels of well-being and protection of these animals.

We can assure you that both the government and the relevant departments of the Autonomous Communities, which are the competent authorities in this matter, take all necessary and appropriate measures to ensure strict compliance both with Law 32/2007, for the care of animals in holding, transportation, experimentation and sacrifice, and with the different regulations on animal welfare enacted in the various Autonomous Communities.

Unfortunately, and despite having legislation on animal protection in Spain, as in other countries around us, we continue to face isolated punctually episodes of cruelty to pets. Therefore, it is of great importance that the government counts on citizen cooperation, as appropriate, for reporting any possible situation of abuse.

Please convey the contents of this letter to the citizens who have supported this initiative, who we could not answer for not having their addresses.

Sincerely,

Jorge Moragas

“isolated punctually episodes of cruelty to pets”…. REALLY??? I also like the “in your opinion”… that says it all!

These people have their heads in the sand or in another place where the sun don’t shine…

Any one else get a similar reply? At least it’s a reply.

Your words are similar to the ones on the emails I received from a couple of other people. Which is why we need to get going with another letter-writing campaign. Hopefully someone will compose one – Im away on holiday for a week from tomorrow – otherwise, well modify one of my previous ones, when I get back. Thanks as always for caring, you and everyone. xxx

My AVAAZ petition has gathered over 10,000 signatures. I’ll keep it going for a while then send it to the Spanish government. If we keep bombarding them with petitions and letters, perhaps we’ll get through to them…

That’s great news, Danielle, just shows how strongly people feel about Spain doing nothing to help the galgos! Keep us posted on how the petition goes. Thanks for supporting the galgos.
