Sighthound Underground – SHUG – helping home hounds in America

SHUG logoSHUG – Sighthound Underground – is another new association in the USA involved in helping sighthounds, including galgos. Here’s what the director Michael says.

‘Yes, we just formed this past December 2012 and are just getting started. We’ve rehomed one dog so far and have a Galgo currently in fostercare. I need to get both of them up on the website and I will use your other suggestions, too as we work on our content! (I suggested when you formed, which shelters in Spain you support, news stories, rehoming stories, what donations are used for.)

We work with Galgos del Sol, Baas Galgo, and Galgos en Familia. I have personally adopted from Tina at GdS and Sandra at BG and our new arrival is from Vera at Galgos en Familia. I work closely with Telma Shaw at GRIN and Petra Postma at SAGE and we recently received a $1000 donation from the Lexus Project! 🙂

Donations are used for vet bills and transport expenses. We would absolutely be
willing to help Azawakh or Sloughi–although I do know from what I’ve read of the Azawakh they have a little bit different personality than most Sighthounds.

I have two Galgos, three retired racing Greyhounds, two Borzoi, and an IG mix myself and am obviously just a sucker for tall skinny dogs of any denomination.

I will be updating our website over the next couple of weeks but feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

We would love to help people who need to rehome Galgos and Podencos in the US and have already worked with GRIN a couple of times to help their “bounces”.
