Who said Britain is a nation of animal lovers….

I am sickened and horrified by this. What is happening to Britain? Is it going the way of Spain?

I am sorry to say that we have a very big problem in the uk on animal cruelty. If this was not the case then we would not have rescue centres up and down the country full to the brim with dogs cats and other animals that nobody wants it is a very bad reflection on society how uncaring we really as a nation. If only people would wake up to many issues and take responsibility for the world they live in.A NATIONS GREATNESS AND ITS MORAL PROGRESS CAN BE JUDGED BY THE WAY ITS ANIMALS ARE TREATED. BEST WISHES TO ALL

It is sickening because it is always the most vulnerable in society who suffer at the hands of evil people and those without a voice are the most vulnerable. I know that the RSPCA is probably the biggest and wealthiest animal charity in the UK but they can prosecute, they can launch national campaigns and they can bring this to the attention of the nation. I will be supporting the RSPCA and hats off to the Inspectors who investigate these cases because I couldn’t do it and remain sane.

I would just like to mention that there was a case in Sheffield where I live where a dog, Isaac, was brutally killed and not by the owner, who was devastated. I won’t go into details of this case but there was a massive outpouring of grief and anger here. This was in the local papers, radio and local forums. A ‘Justice for Isaac’ campaign and petition was set up on facebook and a candlelit vigil was held. The sick individual who allegedly did this had to be moved to a safe house because of the fury directed at him. There is also a campaign called ‘Alfie’s Law’, campaigning for zero tolerance to animal abuse, maximum two year sentencing and a lifetime ban of owning animals for offenders, http://www.alfieslaw.co.uk, this also features information on Isaac. People do care, although a lot of the time it doesn’t feel that way. Let’s hope that the good can overcome the evil out there.

Thank you all for your coments and especially
yours, Kathryn, about Justice for Isaac and Alfieslaw. It sounds as though
the latter really needs lots more publicity. Its all any of us animal
lovers can do to help those who cant speak up for themselves. Thank you
    all for being so caring.

Hi Jenny, yes that was Isaac. There was a lot of anger here in Sheffield about this, so much so that the police had to move this sicko to a safe house. God knows he didn’t deserve to be safe. I don’t condone violence but….. this individual will find it very hard to live in Sheffield now. This was featured on the football internet forums too and I think some tough characters were quite keen to ‘have a word’ with him. Anyway, he will be having his day in court very soon but it will be some paltry sentence handed down to him. He will always have to look over his shoulder though if he stays in Sheffield, a lot of people here are very upset about what he did.

Hi Jenny, Alfie is a bearded collie and he is owned by the lady who is campaigning for ‘Alfie’s Law’. She was so sickened by the cruelty to pets, Isaac being one of them, that she started a campaign for zero tolerance, tougher sentencing. She started a petition and got 28,000 signatures. She has had such a good response that she has now been able to start a charity/foundation. It is worth having a look at http://www.alfieslaw.co.uk There is also a remembrance part of the site for pets who have been killed. I think that there should be zero tolerance to animal cruelty and tougher sentences in the UK, Spain and the rest of Europe.

Hi Jenny, not sure about this but I would have thought that it would be Sheffield. He was arrested, police knew he had done it because he had videoed it, yes it does get worse. This individual is evil. Just thinking of Isaac now and what he went through and all the other innocents out there suffering.

He took Isaac from a garden at someone’s home to a wasteland at Skye Edge, so he made sure no one would see or hear. Isaac was nine years old and a much loved pet. He taped what he did and that is how the police knew. I believe that he was beaten up because of what he did to Isaac, which is why the police moved him to a safe house and issued a statement warning the public against taking vigilante action. Even if he gets sent to prison, the toughest sentence he will get will be six months custodial, pathetic. That’s why the ‘Justice for Isaac’ and ‘Alfie’s Law’ campaigns need support, so that evil sickos like this get longer sentences, there should be zero tolerance to animal abuse.

That is so good to know – that so many people are gunning for him. I dont agree with vigilantes but some someone like this, he should pay a big price.

Hi Beryl, I don’t agree with vigilantes, there are proper processes and courts of law but it is very hard to separate head and heart, especially in a case like this. I cannot deny that I have had dreams of Tony Soprano knocking on his door and meting out a special form of justice! However, in the real world, he will go to court, serve six months maximum (if he even gets that) and that will be that. It is still heartening though that people have been so outraged about what happened to Isaac. I just wish that there was tougher sentening in cases like this.
