Link to an article about El Seprona and the ‘Black Legend’. Have posted a translation below. Apologies that I have not had time to go through it to correct it. At the end is translation of two comments.
The captain of the Head of Service of Protection of Nature of the Guardia Civil (SEPRONA), José Manuel Vivas, said in an interview with Europa Press that it is true that after the end of the hunting season will increase deaths of greyhounds, commenting that this issue is a “black legend” and that is true “there is much careless, but not as much as what you want to see,” adding that “no hunting season ends and begins having dogs hung by trees. “
These statements to Europa Press have emerged following the publication of SEPRONA latest statistics on crimes against the environment, according to the report, have increased 15% in 2012 over the previous year, from 305 prisoners in 2011 to 339 in 2012 and 166-1098 charged in relation to these offenses in the same period.
Of the 1,437 total arrests or charges by the SEPRONA executed in 2012, 140 were due to violations against pets, and there were 60 arrests and 206 charges by wildfires. In addition, detained more than 50 people on charges of poaching.
Picks trophy poaching
José Manuel Vivas pointed out that the waste-related offenses, hunting and animal abuse are the greatest number of recorded offenses. Specifically, waste-urban or dangerous-were those with a greater number of offenses in 2012, going from about 16,000 in 2011-17373, a figure that represents 20 percent of the total.
The second place is the wildlife-related crimes, with a total of 15,085, of which 9,541 are related to hunting and fishing 5,544. Vivas said he has noticed a spike in poaching, but more related to the achievement of the trophy that make meat for food, further exacerbating the crime, “as they are hunting for the pleasure of having the animal’s head” said.
He also said that crimes against animals have “risen sharply” in one year, from around 10000-13000 violations. “The concern is the increase in animal abuse”, which performed 1,505 actions related to the abuse or neglect of pets. In this way, said that there were 164 cases of criminal offenses that led to the arrest of 19 people and the imputation of another 12.
Regarding illegal use of poison in the field, conducted a total of 145 performances, which were located 402 and 342 poisoned bait dead animals, and proceeded to arrest or charge of 16 people. The species that have been most affected is the griffon vulture ( Gyps fulvus ) with 60 fish died by consuming these illegal products. The fox ( Vulpes vulpes ) was also quite affected, with 42 bodies found.

Maybe it would be good that seek for abandoned houses and hamlets, on the roads, in the fields, in the streets of the villages … And the few who are lucky in shelters. Ah! also in animal concentration camps where some municipalities remain locked in small cages for animals abandoned, waiting to be killed. Amazing that a body so honored as Civil Guard, has the controls to certain characters, but the “put a finger” we already know are grateful stomachs. Shame.

That little shame, as it shows that it is not he who collected the bodies of dead dogs, or some half-dead in abandoned houses tied abandoned or trees away from any urban center. I have pictures of dogs that I collected myself semi-dead victims of hunting, greyhounds and hounds, I’ve experienced firsthand, so here that I come with tales. Hunting is the main cause of abuse and neglect of dogs in Spain, say so say so.
If you do not see what happens to greyhounds in Murcia and Seville or any other province in the south, and the Britons in the peninsula, or Spanish setters in northern … Mr. Vivas has no idea of what he says, or know perfectly but says what matters most, one of two.

Is Mr.José Manuel Vivas blind? Is he ever going out on the streets, I bet I know more of his rotten culture about the huntingdogs than he!
It’s the great shame of spain. How can he mis thousands of dogs lying across the streets every year. No he’s cleaning his act but so respectless to the animals.
Rubbish, it is not a black legend it is the truth! Shame on him for not facing up to it. If it isn’t true then why are hundreds of thousands of hunting dogs abandoned and the poor rescuses left to pick up the pieces. It is absolutely the great shame of Spain!
well i dont think there is ever going to be respect for animals not just spain all over the world i just cant understand why most people look up on animals as vermin they feel pain and fear things in the same way we do of flesh and blood they are made why cant these poor souls have the same protection as us humanes if we are hurt by someone else when is most people going to undrstand its truley heart breaking all the poor souls born to cruelty one heart break after another i break every day for every animal loosing their life in one way or another
