I have seven dogs the alfa dog is my 13 year old galga girl
my other dogs are three pointers one pod cross a galgo cross and a goat dog they all live together with no problem
but even they will sometimes have sharp words
With so many galgo in togther they will be the odd fight Dogs are dogs
With the thin galgo skin it will alwasy look bad
This man does so much wonderful work to save the galgos I take my hat off to him To criticie him is beond belife Wonder what they would say of if the shoe was on the other foot I surport Scooby always have always will
the same here one of my grey girls thinks she is boss i have it every day off her but she never bites and yes the same here they can have sharp words but we curve befor anything breaks out mine are never left on their own not for any thing and yes with all the dogs at scooby and other rescues it will happen fermine is correct on what he says and yes people want to stop having a go and saying this that and the other and do something sodding constructive and adopt all the rescues are trying their best at keeping these dogs safe there is enough to be worried about without people having a go have a go with the hunters and the breeders for causing all this s— in the first place
I heard from someone who worked for Scooby as a volunteer that there was a strict code how to interact with the dog packs to minimize conflicts within the pack.
I do not remember the details but I had the impression that the Scooby team does what they can to protect the dogs from having bitten and mobbed.
The alternative is putting only a very few dogs in one kennel and having many kennels… like the big Budapester dog pound (as good as no killings anymore there). But I am not sure if it is humane to keep dogs sometimes for longer periods in this way. Because the Budapester pound adopts out the dogs pretty quickly or they go to sanctuaries. They can go for maximal safety in this way. Scooby however keeps the dogs sometimes for years… until someone adopts even the ugliest, shiest and/or oldest one…
I think Scooby needs help and more adoptive families. And less abandoned galgos, of course…
Fermin even had a meeting with the leader of the hunting association, I suppose to discuss the plight of the galgos. Maybe it helps a little bit, too…
I think the Scooby team does for the dogs what they can. I wish more people would adopt a galgo from them.
That would make a difference for sure.
its always easier to critizise than to help. i wish we would have more Fermins in spain. thanks to him and his interview to a famouse magazine in spain, the cause of the galgos had the first voice in spain.
all what is done today for the galgos started at scooby’s and what he sais is true, even in a group of 3 dogs can happen deadly accidents or severe injuries if they start mobbing the weakest one.
Thanks for adding your voice, Mo. Another association president endorsing what he says is wonderful. Sadly, Levriers sans Frontiers president Odile has done herself and her association no favours by her public criticism of Fermin. As you say, easier to criticise…which is why I always praise the work all of you living in Spain and working to help the abandoned animals, abused animals, injured animals do. So many people could not do it. and if they can’t, then they help from afar.
