La Bienvenida refuge at Ciudad Real (200km south of Madrid) was the first refuge in Spain which I visited back in 2007 with the French association L’Europe des Levriers. We brought 4 galgos from there back to France for rehoming, one of which was my beloved Sahara. Ciudad Real is a terrible place for galgos and podencos to exist. Recently they had 16 galgos and pups dumped there. Here’s the story.
’16 galgo PUPPIES abandoned in less than 24 hours! Summer is always the worst time for dropouts is unclear but at La Bienvenida Ciudad Real protective welcome could not have been worse with the arrival in less than 24 hours of 16 abandoned puppies, 9 on the night of Monday and 7 yesterday. All of them are galgos and babies, which makes it impossible to keep in the refuge, with the rest of dogs, in case any are sick, until they are vaccinated.
For this reason, the refuge has launched a call for help to the population of Ciudad Real, it is urgent to find shelters for these dogs at least up to within two months, when they can be vaccinated and they can go to the refuge. Foster homes have to be close to Ciudad Real by agreement with the refuge vets.
Apart from fosters, if someone wants an adoption, you can also contact La Biemvenida.
The animals are currently in residence (kennels), with the economic expenditure involved, waiting for adoption or foster homes for them.
Abandonment is a problem throughout the city, that if there were no amenities these galgos would be on the streets of Ciudad Real. They also explain that these animals get to facilities that are at its limit of capacity, with more than 250 dogs, and that each day of summer is between one and three more abandoned animals who come to the protective.
“We need to welcome, adoption, diffusion, economic aid, we have to make all these babies forward,” summarizes the welcome on his Facebook.
If you are interested in hosting or helping one of these adoptions email labienvenida@hotmail.com.
