The Operation began after the Civil Guard received different allegations about theft of dogs, which “occur mostly during the months of the opening of the hunting season”, for “selling on the black market”. As a result these allegations, the Civil Guard opened an investigation within the framework of the operation called ‘Ñarras’, and which began in November 2016 by the rock team of the Civil Guard of Cáceres with the collaboration of the Service of Protection of Nature (Seprona).

Investigators from the Guardia Civil focused its objectives on the theft of Galgo race dogs, being the largest number of stolen dogs and suspected there “could be a greater traffic on the black market, not only at the provincial level, but at the national level”.

As a result of the investigation carried out, the Civil Guard in collaboration with the Court of investigation No. 5 of Cáceres, agents conducted on 8th February 2017 two records in two plots located in the municipalities of Casar de Cáceres and Sierra de Fuentes (Cáceres), since “several parallel investigations pointed to the possibility that in these plots could be stolen dogs”.

During the investigation of a small farm in the municipality of Sierra de Fuentes (Cáceres), 13 dogs of the Galgo breed were found and seized, as well as a light trailer without a registration plate, an air pistol, numerous tools and objects related to the agricultural-livestock sector, which could be “susceptible to being stolen and not used for their original purpose.”

As regards the registration of a small farm in the village of Casar of Cáceres, were found and seized six dogs of the Galgo race, a chainsaw and a martillo-percutor, also supposedly all this stolen. Before these “evidence”, the Guard Civil stopped three suspects of Caceres as alleged authors of three offences of theft with force, two crimes of theft and a crime of belonging to a criminal organization.

At this time the Civil Guard believes it has “dismantled the criminal organization in the province of Cáceres” due to the “illicit marketing of hunting dogs of the Galgo breed, although it warns that the investigation is still open because” is suspected could have ramifications nationally “.”
