Today in Spain – PACMA present a petition to stop hunting with galgos.
‘We will be presenting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment 30.000 signatures against the hunt with Galgos, collected in Holland for our party brother.
Spain is the only country in the European Union that allows this type of game, in which the dogs are weapons and, as mere tools, are discarded when they cease to be useful.
At the end of the season, more than 50.000 greyhounds are abandoned, hung or killed in our country by the hunters. The majority of them are adopted out of Spain, in countries such as Holland.’
Report (in Spanish)
I now believe the number is heading for 100,000 since the galgueros now there are few reports of hanging of galgos – the hunters realise the bad press that has given them – and also that they can now be taken to court for so doing.
