Some of you may have known but many didn’t.
Salvador was named by one of our adopters and was so honoured to be that one. He was found in a hellish state having been attacked by the Galguero’s other dogs and left to rot. For everything that followed, Fundación Benjamín Mehnert words will hit you very hard. We send strength, love and eternal thanks to everyone there. He will never ever be forgotten. His name is etched in our hearts forevermore.
It is heartbreaking for us, but for them, it goes beyond..
Open letter from Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert
When a dog comes to the foundation, it’s a team work: there are those who receive the application, those who decide when it comes in, those who may pick it up or take it to do specific exams. There are the veterinarians, the nurses who take care of him; if he is a hospital guest, there are those who take care of the therapies at night, the last supper and the good night caressing. Then there are all the others who, in their own way, contribute to making the whole mechanism work: those who clean, those who wash the blankets, those who load the heavy bags of food, those who simply pass by to give a caress or a toy. We are many, and all here around our animals, each in their own way but all with their heart.
You arrived, and together with the whole team we welcomed you and quickly attended to you in the operating room. Everything moved, as usual, quickly and with a lot of eagerness to win this enth battle. Our Partner Associations chose your name, so many godparents supported you to help us tackle healthcare costs.
You, with those almond eyes and completely shattered by the bites, the pain and the long state of abandonment. The infections were deep, but you began to react and forcefully jumped out of the cage. 22 days since you received your first caresses, kisses, cuddles and lots and lots of affection. 22 days we were sure, too sure, that we would get you in a van and say goodbye like so many others, with a lump in your throat but sure you would live a happy life…
But no. Instead, you flew away, like a balloon, and who knows where you will be now, dear Savior. We love you so much, we really believe in you and we can’t even pronounce the word “death”. You left an imprint on our souls and we are all in shock. Bye bye beautiful eyes.
