  • Scooby team – to France, Holland and Italy

Scooby Castilla y Leon 400 3 2017This weekend Fermin and members of the Scooby team are travelling from Spain through France to Holland and Italy with some of their rescued dogs going to foster and forever homes. It’s an incredible journey, especially when you consider that they also have jobs during the week. Fermin writes.

How many more trips we’ll have to do?/ how many more trips do we need to make?

Recent data points to Castile y León, where are the four Scooby shelters, like the Spanish community more violent with the dogs. This is a land of hunting and violence in the name of the ” traditions “, a land of sayings; ” where a necklace is worth more than the galgo “.

  • Another petition…but keep signing and sharing

Sign here if you haven’t already done so. We have to believe that the petitions are delivered.

  • PACMA – petition against hunting with galgos presented to Spanish Government

Today in Spain – PACMA present a petition to stop hunting with galgos.

‘We will be presenting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment 30.000 signatures against the hunt with Galgos, collected in Holland for our party brother.

Spain is the only country in the European Union that allows this type of game, in which the dogs are weapons and, as mere tools, are discarded when they cease to be useful.

At the end of the season, more than 50.000 greyhounds are abandoned, hung or killed in our country by the hunters. The majority of them are adopted out of Spain, in countries such as Holland.’

    Report (in Spanish)

I now believe the number is heading for 100,000 since the galgueros now there are few reports of hanging of galgos – the hunters realise the bad press that has given them – and also that they can now be taken to court for so doing.

  • Stop the export of Irish Greyhounds to Pakistan

The Irish Greyhound Board will stop at nothing for their members to get rid of their greyhounds…please sign and share this petition. Tbh, they make me want to get a machine gun and shoot the lot of them!

  • Galgos! The agony of those who know their destiny.

Behind on stories because strong winds took out our telephone line and France Telecom are hopeless to get them to come out to repair!

Thousands of galgos have died, are currently dying and will die this year in Spain. At the same time, our morale is dying as well. There are hints of light in second chances, lives that are saved, bodies that recuperate from abuses and solitude…

We are given “Galgos” to make us think about empathy and think about the courage of the valiant.
We are given “Galgos” to move us, to allow us to dream, to remind us that miracles do happen!!

Many thanks to all that made this beautiful short film possible.
Fernando Sembrador, Daniel Galindo, Noelia Chaparro García and of course the four-legged beauty Ivonne!

  • Help us to close Olivenza, Extremadura – Spain’s worst perrera (kill pound) – sign the petition

Olivenza perrera petition 400When I published my definitive guide to the plight of the galgo – From Heaven to Hell – in 2010 it contained a report from a volunteer named Rosa on the problems with one of the reputedly worst privately owner perreras in Spain, Olivenza. For years animal activists/association have been fighting to get it closed down permanently. I have now received this appeal from Mo Swatek of Pro-galgo International, please sign and share the petition.

  • Abandoned, starving, ill, dying – on a Seville landfill

Chiri Seville 400 1 2 2017In a village in Seville province – struggling to survive on a rubbish tip!

Chirigota (Chiri) is a galga that some girls found and fed on a rubbish tip. They had to use gloves to catch her as she was very afraid and tried to bite them. She was in a very bad condition and the lady who rescued her, Inmaculada Gomez Gonzalez took her to an emergency Vet.

Chiri was covered in bugs, weighed only 15 kilos – she should be nearer 25 kilos – is dehydrated, anaemic and her skin is flakey. She has been given intravenous serum and vitamins to hydrate and to make analytical Biochemistry and blood cell count as her gums are very pale. She is also on antibiotics, her temperature is normal, but she is still very frightened. She is about 3 years old.

  • Galgo Brujo – hung then burned alive – sign the petition

This petition has been created by my friend Joelle of Galgos Ethique Europe. Please sign and share very widely.

    Galgo Brujo, the living torch.

A month ago, a galgo, Brujo, was hanged, thrown into a bath of oil (highly flammable and corrosive) and burnt alive. He could not be saved.

Where are the murderers of Brujo?

They are still running, unpunished and ready to commit another crime.

This does not only concern Spain. This concerns many European countries.
