This little guy recently arrived at the Rescue center. A tiny baby… trembling, scared, completely lost in a world that had been far too harsh on him. His eyes wide with fear, his little body so fragile you were almost afraid to touch him. Because evening was already falling and the darkness was creeping in, we first settled him in very gently. No more stimuli, no new voices… Just peace, warmth, and soft words. You could feel in everything that he needed this after such a nasty, cold and heartless ordeal. As if he was finally allowed, after a long time, to breathe again. Only this morning, with the first light, could we take a proper look at him… (more…)

I was so honoured to have been asked to contribute for a book created by Marga Hendrix of Viva la Vida Foundation that shines a light on the Podencos and Galgos of Spain. I wrote two pieces: one about Tilly, my first Podenco who began my journey with these remarkable dogs, and another about how we began rescuing Podencos and the desperate situation they face in Spain.

Last week from Galgo Rescue Almeria video
Every time again, it’s that same fearful waiting… that moment when a request for help comes in and your heart tightens, because you never know what kind of suffering you’re about to face. We were asked if we could help take in a galgo girl and a puppy. And as much as we wanted to rush into action immediately… the Rescue center is currently running with only one person. It was simply impossible to pick them up yesterday.
The following day thankfully, it was possible. With heavy hearts, we drove to the meeting point. What we found: an adult galgo girl… and a puppy barely four months old. The way that tiny pup was handed over — so lost, so fragile — is something we will never forget. (more…)
2 black galgos lost and abandoned in the campo after hunting – Galgos Rescue Almeria are hoping to catch them. Not an easy task out in the open. Keep your fingers crossed for them all.
