This week is Loneliness Awareness Week. Those of us lucky enough to have hounds for company know how much they help with our day to day happiness, even when sick. Maybe the UK vets should remember this and reduce their diabolical vet fees, rather than force people to give up their four legged companion when they can’t afford expensive vet care.

Protectora Scooby – galga Mistral hoping for a forever home
‘This beautiful girl who is supposed to be adopted soon will probably spend the rest of her life in a kennel in our shelter because she is positive for leishmaniosis and people are more afraid of this Mediterranean disease than of Putin!
With the right treatment, they can live well for many years. It’s not fair that dogs with leish don’t have the chance at a normal life and the love they deserve more than any other dog.
If you can to give this galga, her name is Mistral, a dignified life and make her very happy so she would thank you with all her love and heart writes to: adopciones@scoobymedina.org
An adopter with experience of taking on a dog with leishmania has this to say.

Protectora Scooby – saving hunting dogs for over 30 years
Read about the history of Protectora Scooby Medina on this weblink and take a video tour of the shelter. Since its inception at Medina, the association has also opened shelters in Palencia, Zamorra and Valladolid. Each year they rescue many galgos dumped in perreras at the end of the hunting season so they always have dozens hoping for forever homes.
If you have room in your home and heart for a galgo – or another galgo – have a look at them on this weblink.
These 3 terrified souls arrived a week ago. Heartbreaking to think of the maltreatment they have suffered at the hands of the galgueros, when they should be happy loving hounds.

Protectora Scooby – beautiful perrigals for adoption
Perrigals are galgo x and Scooby has these 2 beauties hoping for forever homes.‘We have some beautiful perrigals and it’s amazing that they are still here at the shelter without anyone ever asking about them! They are brother and sister, very devoted to each other but no problem separating them either. Still pretty young, about 2 or 3 years old, very playful, great with other dogs and love people. They have all the good of galgos, just a little fatter. Their names are Dorotea, chip: 8428 and Gonzalo, chip: 9239. Adorable and need out of a kennel now!

Galgos 112 – young abandoned galgo now safe
From Galgos 112, who have nbeen rescuing Spanish hunting dogs for 16 years.A few days ago we received a notice of this abandoned baby, very hungry and thirsty. What did we do? Being overwhelmed as dogs waiting for a family, we couldn’t look away and luckily for him there was a companion nearby where the little one took refuge.
Result that Tico has joined our family with the extra effort of taking on another daycare payment.
The young boy has been dewormed and cleared from being eaten by fleas and ticks. Not surprising that he’s not carrying a chip.Welcome Ticorrón! Now it’s our turn to ask for help to pay for his daycare, and or family that can take him in while he recovers.
Thank you if you can help.

Galgos 112 – full to bursting but still they find room for abandoned galgos
Hunting in Spain finished at the end of January and of course the Shelters are all full. And with the Spanish hunters not letting up on their overbreeding of their dogs, the situation year on year foes not change.Galgos 112 say this.
A few weeks ago we had to make the hard decision to close our doors to new dogs at least until some of the Galgos and Podencos we have are fostered or adopted by a family.
We can’t keep helping more dogs for two reasons:
1. Out of space for the dogs.
2. Lack of economic capacity to cover all your expenses.Since then we have only attended to some urgent cases to which it was impossible to say no, and they have also arrived at Galgos 112 these two galgos, we believe they are brothers, that someone left tied up at the door of one of the residences we collaborate with. We couldn’t stop helping them.
Their names are Barry and Otis, they are two 3-year-old galgos, unidentified, sociable and not afraid of people. They are healthy and their vet protocol is almost complete. They are available for adoption

April – Adopt a greyhound/galgo month
In the very beginning of my involvement with galgos in Spain and working with Charl del Rio who later founded 112garlotta galgos. I published an appeal for homes for 2 galgas rescued by Charl from a perrera. Angela Yardley contacted us and subsequently adopted them both.
This is an appeal from Forever Hounds Trust established by Angela about adopting one of the Trust’s greyhounds.
