She already has a few dogs and cannot keep this one so if anyone can offer foster care or a permanent home, please contact her on the email below.

  • Nana – just a little dog

NanaCristina de Luna is trying to find a permanent home for this little dog.

She is called NANA, she’s a crossed galga, very small.

She’s around 45 cm high and weights 10 kg., and is only 10 months old.

The photos show her in her foster home, but now her foster mum is very ill, and a refuge is the only other place open to her.

She cries the whole day and is very depressed because she doesn’t understand what happened.

If there is anyone looking for a small dog, this little girl is perfect.

  • Hello to Hallo – who needs help

HalloAlthough he’s not a galgo, I’m including the story of Hallo, as he has been saved by a friend of Marisa’s.

    Marisa continues his story.

Hallo is a really difficult case in Spain. He was found by a friend of mine in the centre of Seville last Halloween, jumping above the cars in a really big avenue.

She got him into the car and went home. Hallo was really frightened. The days passed and Hallo never lost the fear.

  • Linda’s story

LindaThis little lady is a Pointer, a walking skeleton, malnourished, abused, and incapable of moving.

Luckily she is now with the Kimba refuge, recovering from her ordeal.

Her lord and master overlooked the fact that she has an identification chip so, for once, Spanish law can go after him!

A Kimba volunteer continues her story.

  • Introducing Paloma

PalomaThis is the story of Paloma, another victim of the barbarism to galgos.

She was run over on 28th January.

Just another case of the thousands seen daily by those who work the galgo plight.

Named Paloma for her white coat, like a dove fallen from the sky with broken wings.

    Charlotte tells her story.

  • Not a galgo, but still a sighthound

Byron adoptThis is Lord Byron, he is in Tarragona, Spain. He was found tied to the door of a house, where the owner has an Afghan.

He was covered from head to toe in fleas and ticks, and very weak.

His coat was knotted like dreadlocks right to the skin, so his skin could not breath, so he had to be clipped.

He has dermatitis, woulds and lumps all over him, possibly because he got caught under a wire fence, which cut his skin and became infected.

  • More Forever Homes needed

Glago rescueAs the hunting season with galgos in Spain draws to an end, the rescue associations are swamped with abandoned and injured dogs.

SOS Levriers is one of the French associations desperately looking for forever homes, or foster homes.

Currently there are seven dogs which they are desperate to bring out of Spain, including Nur, Azucena, Corso and Liberto, Fred, Jezabek and Gina.

Check the SOS Levriers website for more details about how to adopt, and to contact them if you can help.

  • Introducing Pruna – she has now been adopted

    Pruna
A little podenco looking for a forever home.

About three years old, she was used as a hunting dog, beaten quite regularly. Then she got her hind leg caught in a trap. so her owner tried to cut the leg off with ‘scissors’.

Releasing her to a life on the streets, she was knocked down and injured further. Luckily she was found and taken in by a rescue association, who operated on her leg, to be cared for in a foster home.

She was so traumatised by now that she didn’t make a single sound, or move at all.

  • Noel – not a Christmas decoration – Noel has now been adopted

NoelWe hang Christmas decorations at this time of year. The Spanish hang dogs. This is one who was lucky enough to be found still alive, which is a miracle.

He allowed his rescuers to cut the rope, and remove the assassination cord from his neck without a whimper. His wounds are being treated by caring volunteers. His crime? To be born a Spanish galgo.

When hunting ends in January there will be dozens more cases like this, many of them will not be found alive.

He has been christened Noel. He is now looking for a forever home. Contact Cristina at GalgosIn Fronteras if you can help.

Join the campaign to stop this barbaric cruelty. Click on any of the website links in the right hand column and find out how you can help.

The galgos need all the support they can get.

  • Introducing Noa – Noa has now been adopted

NoaNoa is a black galgo of about 3 months old. On 22nd December he suffered a road accident, knocked down in Palencia, left on the tarmac with no help offered, not even from the local animal protection society.

Luckily Amigos de Milord learnt about him and he was taken to a hospital in the city where his pain and injuries were treated. He is now with an orthopaedic traumatologist.
