  • Chucked out and left to drown…

AguaThis is Agua, named because she was found in a canal of water with her babies, watching two drown.

She is recovering in foster care and its seen that this is the first time she has received love, food and attention.
She walks well on the lead and is a calm quiet dog.

If anyone can help her find her forever home, please contact www.degalgos.org or myself.

  • A tale of a little podenco

    Bebe
This is a Malagueno Podenco from Andalucia. She is about the size of a Yorkshire Terrier. In other words, tiny!

She was found, terrified and injured, on a motorway near Seville. Luckily a young Spanish woman, a volunteer at the Sofía El Refugio Escuela refuge, stopped her car, and managed to catch the traumatized dog. She had an injury to a hind leg, open wounds on her body, and was starving.

She named the little dog Bebe, which means ‘born again’.

  • Homes found

YorAlways nice to report on forever homes found, so here we catch up with some of the dogs that have featured on the site in the past.

Yor has gone to a lovely home with a lady who lives in the Aude.

Adonis and PyeHe shares a sofa with Barney, a saluki cross and Jack, a large collie.

Adonis has gone to live with an adopted galgo Pye, his look-alike.

Pruna has found a home near La Rochelle, little Noa is also adopted, and Colate has gone to a French family near Paris, who have an adopted greyhound.

The two dogs saved from hanging, Innocente and Noel, have also found forever homes, where they will never again experience the horror of ‘The Pianist’.

And Shamia, the Azawakh, now has a fabulous new life in Greece. The adopting family have a great deal of experience with the breed and are very excited about welcoming her into their country home.

  • Can you help a pointer?

PointerWhile everyone is saturated with dogs coming in thick and fast it is always hard to add another to the case of abandoned dogs.

However I have been contacted by someone who has rescued a pointer, brecan aleman aprox. 1 year old female who had been left lying on the road.

They took her to the vet and she had a broken leg, probably knocked down.

She has been left with a limp but is doing very well. She is great with kids and other dogs cats, and understands the command NO. She is not a big dog and is in need of a forever home.

If anyone can help please contact Helen directly on the phone number or email below. They cannot keep her but hope to look for someone who can give her the love she deserves.

    UPDATE

Holly has now been rehomed in Germany

  • Update on Linda

LindaAn online eBay collar auction in aid of Refugio Kimba has allowed Sighthound Welfare Trust to provide £250 in grant funding to the Spanish based animal rescue organisation.

The grant will support the excellent work that Kimba carries out on a daily basis for galgos, but in particular the funds will help with the veterinary expenses of Linda, a pointer.

  • Introducing Palomo

PalomoI try not to put too many dogs on Galgo News looking for forever homes, as the individual associations are the people to contact.

But I feel a need to mention the ones which really pull at my heartstrings, like the injured and abused ones.

This is Palomo. The main things he needs are a warm bed, plenty to eat and drink, and your love and kindness.

  • Plea for little podencos urgently needing to be moved

PodencosThese podencos were in the house of an old lady who has Alzheimers Disease, and she forgot to feed them.

A neighbour has taken them, but cannot keep them, as she has five dogs of her own.

The most urgent need is that the dogs are taken from where they are now, even if only by an association, and after that, money is needed for food etc.

Money is urgently needed to help with their feed or whatever they require, plus new homes found.

  • Life is hard on the streets

CordobaThis is a podenca living on the streets of Cordoba. She has had a litter and the pups have now been taken, by whom? She has gained her trust in a lady nearby, and this lady is the only one who can touch the little dog.

She is being sterilised today and needed a foster home for that reason, as she has nowhere to go to recuperate, other than the streets again. She is living in the park and there is a hunter who has a place for podencos, who interested in catching her and keeping her for breeding. His place is not suitable – not difficult to imagine – and it is hoped that, at least by sterilising her, it will deter his interest.

  • Not forgetting the Podencos……

ViolettaThrough helping with galgo rescue, I’ve been introduced to podencos, or Ibizan Hounds. We’ve fostered one, Jazmin, an absolutely delightful character.

Some of the podencos have had their beautiful pink noses mutilated to make them look like a pig, as with Joy, which apparently is supposed to improve their ‘ratting’ capabilities!

These dogs also suffer the same degree of indescribable cruelty as the galgos.

You can read about the breed on www.ibizanhoundrescue.com.

In the meantime, meet Violetta, a little character looking for her forever family.

  • And another needing help

Onno homeThis galgo was found the other day loose on a motorway, luckily before he was injured or killed.

The refuges are already full to bursting, his rescuer cannot keep him in her apartment as she already has 16 cats and 2 galgos there, so he is living in her car.

If anyone can help please please contact the refuge through the website below.
