  • Operation Rehala, Bullas, Murcia – please help the podencos too

Los Perros de Bullas – Today (8th March 2012) it has been agreed with much teamwork from The Little Pod Foundation, SOS Animals UK, the Animal Welfare Support Murcia group and Podenco Friends to find temporary care and rescue for some of the misfortunate Podencos in the Bullas tragedy. If the rescue is successful, it is hoped that between 8 and 10 dogs will be saved, plus any puppies that are still there. Friday 9th March 2012 is the ONLY day now permitted to rescue any of these dogs.

  • Beware sugar substitutes – could poison your dog!

Sharing a message from Spain with you.

Just a warning the new sugar substitute Xylitol is poisonous to dogs one teaspoon will kill a GSD, this advice has come from UK vets. It is also in some processed foods/candies and sweets, for example Orbit Gum so please be aware, it acts like giving a dog insulin and there is no antidote. So if you have 2 teaspoons in you tea/coffee and the dog drinks it you have a serious problem on your hands. It can cause liver failure for the dogs. Please share as widely as possible.

Have to say our dogs never drink our drinks

  • Conil lde la Frontera, Cadiz – Costa de Luz – Urgent Help!

Another desperately urgent appeal: Andrew Townsend Date: Sun, Mar 4, 2012 at 10:28 AM
    Subject: Galgos in need

I am Secretary of Happy Ending – Final Feliz in Cadiz, Spain. I am looking for some help. Yesterday I found 5 Galgos on public land in Conil de la frontera (out
of sight from most people near a river). They are in a poor state and
in a stinking”kennel” surrounded by shit and rubbish. Four in one and
    one alone.

Tina Solera of Galgos del Sol says, ‘Pro-Setter Spain is co-ordinating the rescue. On 2nd March La Fortaleza, GdS, Andreas Animal Rescue & The Henrietta Foundation joined forces to rescue some of these dogs. Between us we took 14 out. • La Bienvenida, Ciudad Real – moving date Easter, no room for all the dogs!

300 meeting KarmelThis story is particularly sad for me. La Bienvenida, Cuidad Real, is the first refuge I visited in Spain and from where I adopted my first galga, Karmel (pic is my first meeting with her). The refuge is 200km south of Madrid.Protectora La Bienvenida

The shelter will move to a new building around Easter. That sounds nice and it is,but not for all the dogs: because at the moment there are many more dogs then there should be, it means that lots of them cannot go into the new shelter!!
It means they have nowhere to go !!
