  • 120 hunting dogs in dire conditions in Murcia – Seprona denounce

    120 Murcia galgos 250 2 2012This is a computer translation of the story, so apologies for the grammar! ‘The Civil Guard of the region of Murcia, in collaboration with the service personnel of Health Animal of the direction General of livestock of the community autonomous of the region of Murcia, has dismantled, in the so-called ‘Preparing’, a shelter illegal operation of dogs in the municipality of Bullas (Murcia).

    Facilities, a fenced field of little more than 1,000 square meters located in a rural area, were staying around 120 dogs of different ages and races, mostly corresponding to the varieties that often are used for the exercise of hunting like greyhounds, podencos, pachones and English setters, among others.

  • Galgueros – the truth of how they keep their dogs! Shame on Spanish hunters.

    Two videos to show the truth about how the galgueros keep their dogs – and horses. And they also illustrate the difficulty in changing the situation – these are the older generation of Spaniards, who do not understand that what they do is animal cruelty, that they blacken the image of Spain around the world, thereby hurting the responsible people – the younger generations to a large extent – who abhor this publicity, and abhor the cruelty.     Protectora ArcoAiris de Cuenca 250Nightmare scenario in Cuenca! I feel sick in my heart to read this, thinking of all the animals who have been saved, who may now be killed. Here’s the story.

    The provincial perrera in Cuenca where they used to sacrifice every 3 months many, many dogs, has since January 2011 been a protectora where,since that time, not one dog was sacrificed. The president, Pilar, makes tremendous efforts to keep it this way but because they are just 1 year working as a shelter, they just don’t have enough associations who help them in finding adoption families for their dogs. This means they now have some 300 dogs instead of the 150 which is permitted. Of the 300 dogs there are at least 100 galgos.

His hunter is going to take him to the perrera to be killed, because he’s got younger dogs now. What a betrayal.   • Bullfighting – the daggers are out in Murcia!

    Galgos and podencos are my main canine passion, but I try and publicise other aspects of animal cruelty in Spain – where ‘tradition’ is a word used as an excuse. Here is a link to an article published in the Weekly Telegraph this week, in respect of a couple of English ladies who supported their Spanish friends ina protest at a bullfight in Ricote, Murcia. They are out again this weekend at a larger protest in Murcia city.
