  • Protectora Scooby to the rescue again – it’s never ending, please donate to help

    Scooby Tamara 400 1 5 2022
Yet another poor galga desperately needing help. Here’s her story.

‘So many galgos saved, so many galgos in poor condition, so many medical costs,so many more requests for taking in galgos but our financial position does not allow this, that is what it is.

But when the police bring us this poor girl with a badly broken leg, she´s also covered in ticks, we just can’t say no because in the perrera they will not operate her, probably they will put her down. We just can’t let that happen because she is maybe 1 year young so she still has an entire life ahead. The operation will cost almost 1000 Euros and we count totally on the help from you, the public, to help us to make it posible for Tamara, that’s the name we gave her, to be operated so she can make a new start in life.

Together we can make her whole again!

Galgas Connie and Etta are devoted to each other, rescued together from awful conditions they were forced to live in at the hunters. It would be amazing if we could find them a family for the two of them, together.

  • Love me like animals love….poignant poem

Beautiful poignant words which were on the facebook post about a terrified podenco in Jerez perrera.

IF YOU WANT TO LOVE ME…

    Love me like animals love,
with a love that is not postponed for later, with a desire that knows no middle ground, with the fidelity that is always taking care of us, and with the naked gaze that never criticizes.

    love me like animals love
with that tenderness that never manipulates,
with a silence that makes everything comfortable, without urgency and with all his presence, where there is no room for indifference.

    love me like animals love
with a tongue that does not hurt and if it kisses,
with a claw of courage that never threatens,
with that unconditionality that does not abandon, and with the peace of the true rational being.

    love me like animals love

  • Protectora Scooby – 2 galgo puppies rescued

2 tiny galgo puppies found abandoned and suffering from a bad case of mange. Now after a couple of days’ treatment, they are starting to look better. Will take a while for their coats to regrow. Please donate to their treatment, Scooby is desperately short of funds and they have hundreds of galgos and podencos to care for, not counting the other animals including horses.

  • Slovenia Sighthound Society – working with Protectora Scooby for the galgos

    Scooby Slovenia volunteers400 5 2022
There are currently over 450 dogs in Scooby and its smaller ‘branches’ so our help was more than needed.

In four working days we sterilized 9 dogs, neutered 17 dogs and 1 goat, performed 2 second surgeries (wound treatment) and took care of hospitalized and sick dogs. In addition to the veterinary work, we cleaned all the fences, clipped some dogs, trimmed the long claws, gave them antiparasitics, took care of the chickens. We sincerely thank all the employees and volunteers at the shelter who work every day for these animals.

And most of all – got a lot of energy and new ideas for work for the future. Will you help us with this?

Thank you to everyone who supports us so we can help us further!

  • Protectora Scooby – a desperate situation – over 450 dogs rescued since December 2021

    13836ANITA01

Terrible news from Scooby, they are full and running out of funds.

Fermin Perez, president of Scooby, said: “We’ve had a tough few months with more galgos and podencos dumped than more or less ever before. The flow of galgos and podencos has been unrelenting after the most recent hare coursing season.

“We are not the only shelter to experience this. Fellow rescues agree that we have not seen peak numbers like this since about 30 years ago.

“We have rescued 450 galgos and podencos, with 200 other breeds in the shelter as well. Quite simply, Scooby is full and we cannot rescue more dogs for time being.

“As you can imagine this places significant pressure on our resources and we are now in survival mode.

“We will need to solve this crisis if we are to continue.”

  • Galgo Podenco Platform – what they do

    Galgo Podenco Lobby
Many years ago the Dutch Galgo Lobby worked to publicise the plight of the galgos and podencos in Spain. The Galgo Podenco Platform is now doing the same. Here’s an extract from their website.

    ‘Galgo Podenco Platform

The galgolobby is a developed lobby in Europe, where these dogs are much exploited for their specific characteristics as sight hounds, including their speed and hunting abilities. Galgos are traditionally used for hare coursing on the countryside and sometimes on enclosed tracks.

A very important development is that the galgo-lobby also represents the podenco: The Great Forgotten. Podencos are mostly used and abused in the Rehalas and Monterias: the driven hunt. The number of podencos greatly exceeds the number of galgos in Spain. These dogs live mostly hidden in dark and filthy barns on one meter chains.’

You can read more about their work on this link.

  • What to consider when adopting a dog – Protectora Scooby

    Protectora Scooby 1 dog 400
    From Protectora Scooby

‘All dogs are wonderful beings and amazing life partners but as much as we like animals, not everyone has to square up with our character and lifestyle, so it is best to be informed about the characteristics and necessities of the animal race/breed (if we know which one it is) before adopting him and above all, it is very important to be advised by the people who care and know them before taking the final step to expand your family with a four-legged companion.

Many times people adopt dogs or cats because of how beautiful they are physically or because they follow a fashion, regardless of the character and needs of the chosen animal and that adoption generally ends in failure.

This is said, to all of you who are thinking of sharing your lives with a dog or cat we encourage you to do so, but always responsibly and after meditating on it a lot.

There are lots of animals in Scooby waiting for someone to give them a chance.
