Canine contraception – the choices
A typical but sad story about dogs in Spain. Two galgas, abandoned in a small hamlet in Spain, near Cordoba. Retired British couple are feeding them, tick treatment etc, but can’t adopt. The shelters are full and they are concerned about the galgas coming into season and getting covered by roaming dogs and producing unwanted puppies. They can’t afford 150 euros each dog for spaying.
So I found this article about Canine Contraception which I have forwarded on to them in the hope that they can stop the bitches coming into season until a shelter/association can take them.

Please help the Canidrome greyhounds – urgent
From Christine Dorchak. ‘The Macau Canidrome will close in just twelve days! That’s right, on July 21 hundreds of greyhounds stand ready to begin new lives, freed from the dungeon-like kennels where they have been neglected and abused for years. I have seen with my own eyes the injured and sick dogs and their terrible condition as they are brought out to race’.Many of these dogs travelled from Ireland and the UK, or were bred from dogs which had.

Lorca Market, Murcia – galgo puppies on sale
Galgos are being sold on the market made on Sundays in Lorca, Murcia. Without any control or guarantee!
Buyers are often hunters who, most likely, when they cease to be useful for activity, abandon!!Please Lorca Animal, if you can keep an eye on this on Sundays and warn Seprona and the National Police to see what’s going on.
He sells them, an older man at the door of his house, we assume that clandestinely. As well as these on the market!
The doggies were crying, locked up and scared to death, too bad!

Protectora Scooby – saturated and still they save galgos!
8 new Galgos arrived at Scooby last week from Sevilla. The people who rescued them asked for help from shelters in the area, but none could take care of them.
Although we are also saturated, we could not look the other way and deny these guys the opportunity to have a family and to be happy. And, unfortunately, with this one we are more than full and we cannot do any more galgo rescues until some of them get adopted.
If you are thinking of sharing your life with a galgo, send us an email to seguimientos@scoobymedina.org
If you want to help us to continue saving lives, you can do it in the following ways:

Tip of the Needle – over vaccination of animals
Here is another article on the subject of vaccines and how often our dogs etc should have them. My horse hasn’t had a vaccination for several years – he is retired – my dogs don’t go anywhere to meet other dogs as we have our own meadows to talk in. At least for them, rabies vaccination is now only every 3 years. But they are still pumped up with the rest of the drugs! As one is 15, one 13 and one 9, surely they are well protected without still needing an annual vaccine?
Anyone else feel the same?

July Sarcoma Awareness month – greyhounds and galgos

Protectora de Scooby – 36 dogs rescued from a hellhole
TERRIFYING, SHOCKING, HORRIBLE !!
We need urgently help to be able to take care of these 36 dogs (amongst them some 8 galgos) who were taken away by the autorities from it´s owner for a possible crime of SEVERE ANIMAL ABUSE and which, thanks to SCOOBY, are safe now.
The situation requiered a quick intervention because many of the dogs already showed a severe emaciation and were on the edge of death ??.
Now we have to pay for all the medical treatments and the salary from a lawyer and a procurator because the person who commited this crime has to pay for all this! So any possible help will be more than welcome!
These poor angels lived the worst life possible in a miserable. filthy and sickmaking shed, completely eaten alive by fleas and ticks, without water, without food and some dogs were eating another one who had already died ??. It´s indignant that in the 21st century these things keep occurring!
PLEASE, HELP US TO HELP THEM!
