The Scooby Medina team recently travelled to Cadiz and took back 50 hounds to the refuge, together with a podenco which had been hung…and survived. You can read his story here. Please help Scooby – volunteer to look after the dogs, donate towards feed and vet fees. And the hounds all need forever homes.

A tale of a galga and puppies…O.D.A. to the rescue
(Google translation) The association O.D.A.
‘We are still in shock. We don’t even know how to begin to count all this. We’re sick of seeing and rescue dogs and cats in terrible conditions, but we’ve never encountered anything like this. Yesterday we received a call from a great girl that alerting us of a case that I had just met. A galga had given birth a month ago and was living in a pigsty with pigs and chickens. The pigs had eaten the galgo puppies, leaving only two of them alive. When we hear that, we couldn’t believe. We even came to think that it wasn’t true.

Starving with a cord round his neck – Xmas present for Pepis Dog Refuge!
What did you get for Xmas? Jane and Alan Brian at Pepis Dog Refuge got Marko – dumped at the gates to the refuge with a cord round his neck, starving with a damaged pelvis. He will need special feeding up before he can have an xray and operation. He is just one of several in the last week, including 5 hours’ old tiny puppies found in a rubbish bin by the police. All this on top of the 70+ dogs they daily care for. Please help towards Marko’s expenses – paypal pepis.dogrefuge@yahoo.co.uk.

Protesting against killing – sometimes we CAN make a difference
A moving story of canine family love from Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid.
‘This article appeared last week (12 2015) in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo and it´s about the 2 abandoned galgos from Langa (Avila) for which the mayor of that village gave permission to shoot them. It´s beautiful written and very emotional, to translate it is very hard because it´s very big. But in short it comes to this:
The black and white galga you see in this picture which was taken the 25th of November 2012, is already roaming around for 3 years. After one and a half years she got company from an also abandoned male. People in that village know who they belonged to but they didn´t like to talk about that. Together they are like Bonny and Clyde because in the night they come down from the mountain where they live, to catch a chicken, not because they are agressive, no, just to survive and aparently the people there like more their chickens than abandoned galgos so they have chased them many times away or even gone up on `their` mountain to try to kill the galgos.

Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert, Seville
Take a tour round the refuge of Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert, Seville, where there are hundreds of rescued galgos waiting for forever homes. Levriers Sans Frontiers regularly visit the refuge and bring galgos and a few podencos back to France for forever homes. One comment – there aren’t any blankets on the dog beds.

Galga Helena – latest dog dumped at the gates of Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera
Jane and Alan at Pepis Dog Refuge are luck to have supporter Evy Bardrum volunteering with them this week. As she was cleaning the dogs, someone decided to leave her a present….say hello to Helena. She was taken to the vet as she seems to have a problem with her back legs, lets hope its not serious. Waiting for the results.
Please help feed Helena and the hounds at Pepis.

Scooby Medina to the rescue again – live puppies dumped in trash bin
Cobie of Scooby Valladolid is helping care for 3 tiny galga puppies dumped in a trash bin, 4 weeks old. Here’s what she says.
‘We can´t even imagine having a litter of galgos from 4 weeks old and one morning, you take an empty box, put in there three of these tiny little girls, 4 week old puppies, take them to your car, drive to a public dirtbin and leave the box with its precious content in it…! What will happen to them when a few hours later the counciltruck comes by to empty the bin…!! Happily somebody heard them cry and took them to the perrera where Scooby took them right away to bring them in safety…Please God, come down to see for yourself which monsters are among your creatures…!!’
