  • Lorca Market, Murcia – galgo puppies on sale

    Lorca market galgo puppies 400 5 7 2018
Galgos are being sold on the market made on Sundays in Lorca, Murcia. Without any control or guarantee!
Buyers are often hunters who, most likely, when they cease to be useful for activity, abandon!!

Please Lorca Animal, if you can keep an eye on this on Sundays and warn Seprona and the National Police to see what’s going on.

He sells them, an older man at the door of his house, we assume that clandestinely. As well as these on the market!

The doggies were crying, locked up and scared to death, too bad!

  • Cordoba – Adopt a Galgo

Only one month did this picture last before some mindless moron defaced it!

  • Protectora Scooby – saturated and still they save galgos!

    Scooby 8 galgos 1 400 6 2018
8 new Galgos arrived at Scooby last week from Sevilla.

The people who rescued them asked for help from shelters in the area, but none could take care of them.
Although we are also saturated, we could not look the other way and deny these guys the opportunity to have a family and to be happy.

And, unfortunately, with this one we are more than full and we cannot do any more galgo rescues until some of them get adopted.

If you are thinking of sharing your life with a galgo, send us an email to seguimientos@scoobymedina.org

  • Tip of the Needle – over vaccination of animals

Here is another article on the subject of vaccines and how often our dogs etc should have them. My horse hasn’t had a vaccination for several years – he is retired – my dogs don’t go anywhere to meet other dogs as we have our own meadows to talk in. At least for them, rabies vaccination is now only every 3 years. But they are still pumped up with the rest of the drugs! As one is 15, one 13 and one 9, surely they are well protected without still needing an annual vaccine?

    Anyone else feel the same?

  • Heartbreak for galgos and podencos in La Manche

    Avalon Animal Sanctuary 400 6 2018
One of the emotional problems of helping the galgos and podencos of Spain is that one wants to help them all, especially those traumatized, injured and needing treatment…and the problem is as bad now as it was when I first became involved in 2007. The difference is that more people are aware of the problem, more people want to help, and more rescue and rehoming associations have been formed.

One lady who used to run a rescue in Greece now runs an animal sanctuary in La Manche, northern France. She has a huge caring heart and land and buildings to help needy animals. Sadly this has led her to difficulties with the French authorities, and you can read about it on this link.

The gendarmes took away 36 of her galgos and podencos to 2 SPA kennels (Societe Protection Animale) and dumped the dogs there without their medication, some with leishmania and a couple with cancer.

Of course Lynn is heartbroken, as am I thinking about the 36 dogs who were happy living carefree lives together, rather than chained to walls in dark buildings, starved by the hunters…neglected…

And now her reputation is being destroyed by the trolls on Facebook who are happily attacking her, rather than the rescue associations who kept sending dogs to her. Plus doing absolutely nothing to try and get the dogs out of the SPA kennels.

  • Protectora de Scooby on another rescue – wounded galgo

    Scooby cream galgo wounds 4001 18 6 2018
We also picked up this galgo last week in Murcia. He was full of wounds and was wearing, like so many other galgos that we rescued, a collar made with a rope ??.

?? If you want to give him a new life and the real home he always deserved to have, send us an email to seguimientos@scoobymedina.org

  • July Sarcoma Awareness month – greyhounds and galgos

    Greyhound Cancer Support 400 1 7 2018
My beloved galga Sahara died from cancer…she was an apparently very healthy dogs who suddenly started to get a swollen stomach. I took her to the vet and it was discovered she had cancer and it could not be treated. July is Sarcoma Awareness Month and you can read more about it on the Greyhound Health Initiative website on this link.

  • Protectora de Scooby – 36 dogs rescued from a hellhole

    TERRIFYING, SHOCKING, HORRIBLE !!

We need urgently help to be able to take care of these 36 dogs (amongst them some 8 galgos) who were taken away by the autorities from it´s owner for a possible crime of SEVERE ANIMAL ABUSE and which, thanks to SCOOBY, are safe now.

The situation requiered a quick intervention because many of the dogs already showed a severe emaciation and were on the edge of death ??.

Now we have to pay for all the medical treatments and the salary from a lawyer and a procurator because the person who commited this crime has to pay for all this! So any possible help will be more than welcome!

These poor angels lived the worst life possible in a miserable. filthy and sickmaking shed, completely eaten alive by fleas and ticks, without water, without food and some dogs were eating another one who had already died ??. It´s indignant that in the 21st century these things keep occurring!

PLEASE, HELP US TO HELP THEM!

  • Norway to ban import of ‘street dogs’ from 1 July 2018

Norway import of street dogs 400 6 2018
The Norwegian Defra, Mattilsynet, just released a statement re import of dogs, what they call “street dogs”, defines as dogs from shelters/rescues, dogs without owners, dogs with unknown background. This is very sad news as many UK greyhounds and Spanish podencos are adopted there.

    Main points:

    1. These dogs will no longer be legal to commercially import.
    2. As a private person, you must be able to document that the dog have been owned by you, and lived with you, for minimum 6 months before entering Norway.

Bascially, this means it is no longer possible to adopt/import a rescue dog from over seas effective from the 1st July 2018

    Background to the change
