Galgos-SOS in Denmark work hard to publicise the plight of the galgos in Scandinavia and have rehomed galgos from Spain – quite a weather contrast from the heat of Spain for these thin-skinned dogs! They have a very poignant poem on their website. Click here to read, scroll down to ‘A Christmas Poem’.

Galga Alma – heavily pregnant, abandoned in Barcelona by merciless hunter
Introducing Alma, a beautiful galga – her looks today belie her story. Anna Clements of SOS Galgos takes up her tale.
‘We currently have a case of a female galga who we rescued over the Easter period, heavily pregnant, Albert performed surgery on her, it was a life or death op, all 9 puppies inside her had been overdue and were not alive but she managed to survive.
And what a surprise it was when we discovered that she has a microchip.

SOS Galgos in Barcelona – hunters inflict verbal abuse!
SOS Galgos recently held an information weekend in Barcelona, to publicise the work they do with the galgos. This resulted in some new foster homes, and possible adopting homes too. It also resulted in them being verbally attacked and taunted by some hunters
Anna Clements says’ I met some horrible hunters who came to several stands to tell me what other unimaginable cruel ways they have of treating the galgos. I’ll never understand these evil people’.
What goes on in the minds of these vile sadistic men?

Petition to the Spanish Government to save the galgos – the results!
Greyhounds in Need have sent this information about the petition they ran, which closed at the end of April. The petition received 16,738 signatures.
‘THANK YOU …………… we have been truly staggered by the worldwide support for our on-line petition to the Spanish Government. This has attracted signatures from over 40 countries and all the 50 US States. What encourages us most is the very large number of Spanish people who have signed and so often added impassioned messages calling for action by their Government. This shows us that there are many in Spain who have become aware of this problem and who really want to see improvements in their nation’s standards of animal care.’
We have to keep hammering away at the Spanish Government and the Racing and Hunting Federations. Anyone else with a petition needing signatures, send me the link. And if you haven’t already written to the federations, here’s the link to do so.

Urgent appeal – help take these podencos from France to the UK
Mo Swatek of Pro Galgo has sent out this urgent appeal. Please help, either with transporting these Podenco Canarios from France to the UK, or donating towards the cost. Here’s what Mo says.
‘we need help to take our quarantaine podencos over the Channel from northern France to the UK, and also we still need money to cover the expenses of the preparation and the trip. We had not one single sponsor for our dogs this time – the crisis is hitting the animal world very hard.’
You can contact Mo on the link, both with offers of help and donations.
