  • Collie on the Costa looking for his owners

Collie lostI have received this message from a contact on the Costa Brava:

“I have found a collie that, obviously, has had owner and had to escape frightened by the firecrackers of San Juan; the dates agree at the moment that he appeared (July 5th).

Yesterday, with the storm he was completely frightened. He obeys all the orders in English and that makes me think that he belongs to foreigners who were in holidays in Lloret by San Juan and they lost him then.

As per his behaviour as much in the car, as in city and house he is a customary dog to life in family.

Could you please forward this case to all your contacts abroad? Perhaps we can find his family, who knows? He does not have chip, or necklace, but that does not mean that they have thrown him. I would like to disclose this case in: Germany – UK – Belgium – Holland – France.

    Thank you very much!”

If you have lost him, or know who he belongs to, please email L’Europe des Levriers or Charl.

  • Karmel – latest

I’m offline at home, so not able to check on latest news from Spain, but the latest on Karmel is that she is on double dose Megasolene for 3 weeks and then we reduce the amount to see what dose is small enough to keep the disease under control.

She is being bathed once a week to treat her damaged skin and hair, and is a happy personality, but losing weight – 6 kilos in the last 3 weeks.

  • Rosario – a tale of a galgo rescued from the wild

Rasario backThe capture of Rosario in Niort lasted only 15 minutes at the most!

After five and a half months of following and tracing her without being able to catch her, we needed to go carefully. It necessitated calling upon a professional of the SACPA (Societe Protection des Animaux) at Poitiers to come to our aid.

The hypodermic rifle needed to be filled for a dog of 30kg. Sebastien spent several different times in front of Rosario to get her used to seeing him. He then shot the tranquiliser arrow into her thigh. Rosario was surprised by the impact.

She ran. She crossed the boulevard Atlantic, at a pedestrian crossing, without looking if there was traffic coming.

  • Karmel – a difficult diagnosis for the vet

KarmelMy beautiful brindle galga Karmel is sick. It is just one year since I went to Spain, to Cuidad Real, to collect her from the refuge. She has brought such love and affection into our home, and now she is sick, and we don’t know the cause.

A problem has developed in the feet of my galga. My vet thinks it could be an allergy problem but, as she is one of the hundreds to come out of Spain whose history is unknown, we don’t know if she has suffered this problem before.

All her tests for filaria, leishmaniosis, ehrlichia were negative and, until 3 months ago, she was a normal galga, sleeping on her sofa, walking our meadows, stealing food from the kitchen, even though she had plenty to eat!

Suddenly one morning in April, she went very lame, hardly able to walk.

The pads of her feet were inflamed, the insides of her ears were very pink, and she had a small open sore on her tummy. My vet took scrapings for microscopic examination.

As we know nothing of Karmel’s history, it was difficult to ascertain if it was an allergy – it was that time of year – or genetic, or her immune system.
