  • Day of the Galgo – marching in France, Berlin and Munich

France March hung galgo model 400 1 2023
BOURDEOS – FRANCE 29th January to support the Cause

Just like in other European countries, thousands of galgos, podencos and other dogs arrive in France every year as victims of hunting in Spain.

Rescued dogs that thanks to their solidarity and generosity await a home where they start a dignified life.

Europe takes to the streets for the rights of our hunting dogs and here in our country, our political class thinks they should stay out of the Animal Protection Act.

THANK YOU FOR BEING THEIR VOICE

  • Day of the Galgo – March in The Hague 5th February

Day of the Galgo Podenco The Hague 400 2 2023
    Marching in The Hague

SAVE THE DATE: PROTEST MARCH 5 FEBRUARY THE HAGUE

This Sunday, February 5, there will be peaceful demonstrations in Europe for the Spanish hunting dogs in support of the No A La Caza (no hunting) protest organized every year by the Spanish Platforma NAC. In support of these protests, the GalgoPodencoPlatform in the Netherlands is organizing a demonstration in The Hague today.

Like previous years, a peaceful protest march is supposed to be run from the Laan van Reagan and Gorbatsjov in The Hague to the Spanish Embassy to hand over a letter asking for attention and support for the plighted si tutation of the Spanish hunting dogs in Spain. We gather on the lawn at the Laan van Reagan and Gorbatsjov from 12:00 o’clock and there the protest march of about 1.8 km to the Spanish Embassy begins.

  • Just a galgo – a hunter’s trash

    Yo Galgo Argentina prose 400 1 2023
From the facebook page of Amores Galgos Argentina

    “Me, a greyhound”

    Here I am,
    sectioned.
    From the misunderstanding
    I observe in silence.
As if it were a stone,
Oh! my to the ignored soul.
    A tear roll
    from my sad look.

What do you see when you look at me!
What do you think when you hit me!
    What do you feel…! when…
    my body shrinks, it screams.

  • The dangers of dog walking too many dogs at one time – how many is too many?

    Beryl 5 dogs 400
In the UK, with more people adopting dogs during lockdown, the number of dog walkers has increased. This ‘profession’ is totally unregulated, anyone can set up as a dog walker which can have disastrous results, as happened last week (Jan 2023) in Caterham, Surrey, where a dog walker was walking 8 dogs at the same time.

Reports state that the 8 dogs included 2 daschund, a cockapoo (mongrel by any other name!) collie and a Leonberger, none of the breeds on the Dangerous Dogs list. What a contrast between the dogs, and most of them were from different households. Personally, I fail to see how one person can walk 8 dogs of such a diverse range in size and temperament. Add to this, the woman was walking them on a public common, rather than in an enclosed area or on a private field.

  • Hope you can see this

Hope you can see this video as it’s a facebook link. It’s a greyhound in an agiliy arena not doing much agility but illustrating just how wonderful the greys and galgos look when running free joyously and throwing in the occasional leap over a small agility jump!!

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – 2 happy galgas

    2 galgos 1 400 2020
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria.

Diansa and Fontanela arrived at our Rescue center on October 1, 2020 and were given away by their owner. When the sisters were picked up from a local vet in Mazarrón Fonda was shaking all over. She was so scared and every time her sister Dia disappeared from sight she desperately searched for her. It soon became clear to us that these sisters were inseparable and that a future without each other was unthinkable, not even possible.

The search could start looking for a perfect match, which was not easy since the sisters were not so young. Days/weeks/months went by but we didn’t gave up. These sisters would have a new future together at all costs. Dia & Fonda saw many friends leave, but finally 10 months after their arrival at Galgosrescuealmeria, both sisters could leave their past behind and pack their bags with the nice memory of their stay at GRA. It was an emotional farewell because these girls were so special.

  • One galgo is never enough!

I often say galgos and podencos should come with a health warning – one is never enough, they are such wonderful loving and rewarding dogs. We regularly had 4 or 5 at our farm in France, a couple of which were failed fosters! Here’s a lovely story about a canine family adopted through Greyhounds In Need.
