  • Galgo puppies fighting the virus – with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    Further update from Sandy Galgoslover.

    Video

‘Running a rescue center means to be available for the animals day and night. Past night was tuff, almost a sleepless night, as Iris’s little ones have moved to our living room for care. They get food every few hours and the necessary attention & cuddles. Yesterday morning we decided to take 2 more little ones to the vet, both girls didn’t ate/drank anymore.

We could visit their brother, he seemed to be on the mend, but it’s way too early to say hurrah. He will have to keep fighting hard in the coming days. Mum Iris didn’t looked very well, still the same: no improvement and her eyes radiated sadness. It’s heartbreaking to see them like this, if only we could take over their pain and suffering.

Any help/support will be needed to cover their medical expenses. More updates to follow.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – sick galga Mum Iris and also some of her puppies

    GRA poorly puppy 400 7 2022
    From Sandy Galgoslover.

‘Protecting animals against diseases, viruses, bacteria…at Rescue it’s a constant battle and especially in the summer season it becomes a real nightmare with the persistent heat.

We’ve had to take galga mum Iris to the vet, 1 day of not eating can happen but 2 days ….. Iris is exhausted. The combination of childbirth, so many puppies to feed and the unbearable heat had become too much for her. She’s on an a drip to give her extra fluids and minerals as well as medication, painkillers, anti-vomiting meds and stomach protectors.

We also had 1 of her little ones examined, unfortunately the little guy tested positive for Corona. He’s still so small and we wanted to take care of him at home but our vet advised us to do the treatment in the clinic and keep them there for observation.

In the meantime, we have taken his sisters and brothers out of the quarantine zone and housed them in our home. So we can observe them constantly, they are still so small and have to do without their mom.

All help, support and prayers will be needed. Vet bill over 3,000 euros and growing!

  • Who will mourn me

    Who will mourn me 400 7 2021
This was written for the thousands English and Irish greyhounds but it is just as appropriate for the hundreds of thousands of galgos who have suffered and still suffer at the hands of the bastard galgueros.

    IN MEMORY
This weekend marks the anniversary when British commercial greyhound began in 1926. For 95 years greyhounds have been overbred and culled – cruelly abused and destroyed for the sake of a bet. Over one million greyhounds bred for British racing will have died at the hands of the murderous gambling industry. Please hold in your thoughts those innocent souls – many of whose fates were sealed once they were born a racing greyhound…..may they all rest gently in peace

  • How long to crate a dog?

    https://www.peta.org/about-peta/why-peta/crating-dogs/

    Article in The Guardian.

One woman, Nina Torres, reckons it’s fine for most adult dogs to be in a crate “nine hours maximum” during the day (with a walk in the middle), and then eight hours at night.

I cannot believe anyone would condone incarcerating a dog for most of the 24 hours of its life!! I’m with PETA!

  • Vestibular disease in dogs

    Dog ear-anatomy-small
A vestibular problem is more likely to manifest itself in older dogs. If you notice your dog’s behaviour changing – balance, head tilting – then this could be a possibility.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – a small shelter with a big heart

From Sandy Galgoslover at Galgo’s Rescue Almeria

    Video

Volunteering for a charity fund raising is so important. Without funds we are unable to offer the full range of help and support the dogs need.

Ask yourselves this question “ would you miss one euro a month “? That euro lying around everywhere,…..In the current situation every euro counts to help the animals in our care, and that is why we have set up a teaming group. For that small regular amount you can be part of our ‘Team’ (Galgosrescuealmeria) and support those who need our help the most. We’re hoping that most of our supporters and followers will join forces to raise much needed funds. All we are asking is that you commit to just one euro a month. Please follow the link below to be a part of this fund raising group.

Remember in Teaming the important thing is not how much we give but with how many we are. Only together we can achieve more.
