  • Blind galgo Balu safe with Protectora Scooby

    Scooby Balu 1 400 8 2022
From Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid

‘This very sweet galgo is blind and if that isn’t already bad enough, now he also has a bloodear/othematome in both ears! He has been operated on for this rather painfull issue in the Scooby hospital in Santovenia. All went well and he (Balu) is back and he has undergone the operation as a real hero! He does not like too much the Isabellina cap but what needs to be has to be and hopefully it won’t be needed very long. Well done to the vets and to our special blind boy Balu.

Donations to help with the vet fees will be gratefully received.

  • Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK – helping find forever homes for Scooby hounds

Scooby UK gaggle of galgos 400
Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK is the UK agent responsible for rehoming abandoned and often abused dogs from the Scooby Animal Shelter in Medina, northern Spain. We find suitable foster and permanent adoption homes throughout the UK and take care of all the stages from bringing your chosen Spanish rescue from the shelter to the UK.

Our aim is to help Scooby Medina rehome the excess of dogs that they protect to prevent them living the rest of their days in the shelter, sadly there is simply not enough demand at this present time to all be rehomed in Spain. Over time we hope this might change and our services will no longer be required. This can only be achieved by educating and raising awareness throughout the rural communities of Spain into understanding the importance of neutering and to eradicate needless neglect, cruelty and abandonment for good.

  • Walking in Scotland for Podencos in Need

Podencos in Need Scotland help rehome both podencos and galgos. As with all the rescue organisations, they rely on donations and fundraising. Here’s the latest fundraiser.

Just 5 weeks until Edinburgh Kiltwalk, when Levi the Galgo and family are walking to raise awareness and funds for PINS. Not sure if training walks have been manageable in this heat but their fundraising is coming along nicely. Thanks for all the donations so far!

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – the 4th arrival of 4 needing a blood transfusion

    From Sandy Galgoslover

Meet Eden, the 4th one of the galgos saved last weekend.

This girl was in such a terrible condition that we couldn’t leave her behind. We never saw in real something like this words aren’t enough this pictures make you speechless.

In the clinic she was immediately given the first care. As we already suspected, Eden tested positive for one of the tick diseases ( Anaplasma ).This girl is so weak, dehydrated and anemic. An urgent blood transfusion was therefore necessary to give her any chance of survival. Amy, one of our very own galgos, donated blood to give this girl a chance to survive. Everything went well and Eden’s body has accepted the new blood very well.

That is already a first step in her healing process that will take some time. We want to thank Helping Animals Almanzora for all the help/support so that Eden gets all the necessary care she needs now.

    GRA 3 fosters 1 400 8 2022
    From Sandy Galgoslover.

Last weekend we visited the foster family who took in 3 of 4 rescued dogs. A blissful shower and a good meal can work wonders.
Angel, Anna & Sofia are doing fine. Many thanks Raymond Faber & Ilse for the good care. More updates to follow.

Any help/support remains welcome to pay their vet bills.

  • Spanish shelters – Zero killing

    Zero sacrifice 450 8 2022
Great news. But that means even more dogs in shelters! Now Spain needs a law for compulsory neutering of dogs and cats and handcuffing the hunters for overbreeding.

  • Galgo Rayo for adoption – with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    Sandy says

‘He arrived at our shelter on June 17th.

Rayó is such a sweetheart of a dog, unfortunately this sweetie tested positive for Leishmania. If you watch this video you will see how playful, social, cheerful this boy is. Leishmania is not the end as long as it is kept under control with the right treatment, medication and regular blood tests, these darlings can get old too. Give dogs with Leishmania a chance at happiness, too.
