  • Update on the Cordoba galga

    This is the latest news about the pregnant galga loose in Cordoba.

    ‘She has now given birth to 7 or 8 pups. We have not caught her yet, it takes a lot of people, and a lot of good luck. We need to bring together many volunteers, so far in groups of w, 3 or 4, but still we need a larger team. The fact is that she is very clever and very fast. We don’t want any donations until we catch her, because if we fail in the end, then we will have to return the donations, and that is complicated.

  • Pregnant podenca on a Spanish street – in danger of the hunters

    CRIS 7 SEPT Charl 250 Yet another little lady, abandoned on the streets to survive, with a bellyful of pups! The refuges are full to overflowing, but it’s important to get this podenca off the streets before she has her babies. Hunting is about to start, and it’s a dangerous time for them all to be out and insecure.

    The people who sent the plea for help for her cannot take her in as they already have several cases in the same position but they would finance her journey to another place if a foster home came up

  • Galgo Russo, victim of hit & run – please donate to vet fees for him

    Russo lying Tina 09 2010 250 Regular readers will know Tina Solera is another volunteer working tirelessly for the abandoned dogs of Murcia, in Los Infiernos refuge. She has been picking up abandoned galgos regularly all summer, many of them now rehomed, but still there are a couple of galgos and a couple of podencos needing forever homes.

    The latest incumbent is Russo. Here’s what Tina says about him.

  • Galga Sofie from Badajoz – latest news – on the road to recovery

    Sofie second operation 250 Fantastic news from GRIN – Sofie, the brindle galga abandoned on the streets of Badajoz, whose lower jaw was cruelly broken, had the steel rods holding her jaw together removed on 3rd September. Read the whole story, see the latest photo, here.

    At the end of September, Telma Shaw and Wally Lacy of GRIN fly to Spain and Sofie and Angie – the remaining dog from the Jaen 4 to be rehomed – will fly back to the US to begin their new lives.

    Wonderful news, and I add my thanks to those of GRIN.

  • Saving galgos, saving humans, adopt a needy dog

    I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

    Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid.

    As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

  • Galga Alerta, abandoned in Spain, awaiting her forever adopting family

    ‘Aleta – 1 year old female found wandering the roads in Pilar. She had a skin condition and a badly injured tail but is now fully recovered after treatment and is ready for a new home.’

  • Cielo, galga left for dead on the streets of Cordoba, rescued by La Guarida

    Cielo2 body Cobie 08 2010 250 It’s now nearing the end of August, soon the Spanish hunting season begins. And there are still galgos suffering and dying, abandoned at the end of the last hunting season.

    Here is the story of one of them. It has taken me 2 days to be able to post this story, I was so sickened at the suffering of Cielo and felt for the emotional and physical draining which the volunteers who rescued her must have suffered too.

  • Guam greyhounds – video of their rescue and happy endings

    In the Spring of 2009 on the island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean, the greyhound racing stadium was closed down, and 175 greyhounds were let loose to survive as best they could. Galgo News ran the story. This is a video of their story and their happy endings in forever homes.

  • Pregnant galga, abandoned on the streets of Cordoba – please help

    Pregnant galga Cordoba 3 08 2010 300 One of the things which really sickens me and also makes me exceedingly angry is the abandonment of animals – everywhere. I receive many emails containing appeals for help for abandoned animals, or mass cullings of stray dogs or wild mustangs. The reason there are so many unwanted animals is because of MAN, as in human. If there were not people like breeders of animals, dog and horse shows, circuses – to name just a few – there would not be the need for refuges and rescue associations.

    This is yet another example of irresponsibility and lack of care – a galga abandoned on the streets of Cordoba, prey to any dog which scents her when she comes into season. The result, she is still wandering the streets of Cordoba, heavily pregnant and about to give birth to yet more unwanted dogs.

  • Latest news on Podenca Mary in Malaga – looking for a forever home

Apparently Mary would not leave the chair without them! If you can donate towards the cost of the veterinary fees, or offer Mary a forever home, contact Charl, 112 Carlota Galgos. Mary does not have a UK passport.
