  • Almeria galga abandoned, anyone any room?

Almeria galga abandoned 2 05 04 2011 190 And yet another abandoned galga. Here’s the message just in.

‘Hello everybody, we’ve just been made aware of this case, it is a galga that is abandoned and lives lives badly in a house in ruins. For now we have food and water, but it would be necessary to find a foster home where she can recover little by little. She has a noble character, friendly and confident, not scared or running from people. Please, has anyone a little space for this galguilla for two or three weeks, please avisadnos, together we can change the future. Thank you very much for your attention. Regards. • More galgos injured after abandonment – please help with operation costs

Ken_001 10 02 2011 250 At the other end of the refuge spectrum from Scooby is Galgos del Sol, newly created although the team have been saving galgos for a while. Two galgos have just arrived, Ken, victim last night of a hit and run, and Jenny, with a broken leg. Here’s what Tina Solera says about them.

This is Ken. He was hit by a car from behind. His spinal colum has crushed together and he needs a big operation…. 1000 euros. Also Jenny, with a broken leg. She needs an operation…..approx 600 euros.

Galgos del Sol desperately need funds to pay for these operations. Please help and donate by Paypal to tinasolera@hotmail.co.uk or, if you live in the UK, to the association bank account – details on this link

  • Galgos dumped everywhere in Murcia! Please help pay vet fees

Angela 190 sweet%20little%20pod Tina 01 2011 Abandoned galgos and podencos everywhere, as well as dumped in killing stations. Can you imagine dumping this little cutie in a killing station?! There is a team trying to catch the podencos in Valencia, (mentioned in a previous post), one of the dogs has disappeared; and there are dozens wandering the streets of Murcia.

Galgos del Sol have been collecting some, and are trying to catch others – too frightened to be caught, so needing to be tempted into a trap. When are the hunters going to realise that the majority of Spaniards despise them for the bad press they give the country around the world. And when are the laws going to be applied.

These dogs all rescued this week need their EU passports preparing

  • Galgo pup Charlie, survivor of Jerez perrera – sadly Charlie has now died

Charlie 2 Charl 01 2011 250 The refuges and shelters are, as ever, swamped under the sheer volume of abandoned dogs, especially galgos – there’s been no let up all winter. And still the governments and authorities ignore the problem. Here’s another casualty of the galgueros. This is Charlie, 5 months old galgo pup, suffering from a viral infection in the Jerez killing station.

Update 8 01 2011 Sadly today Charlie gave up his fight for life. Thanks to everyone who donated to help the vet try and save him.

  • Galga Twiggy, leg broken, shot by an air gun, saved by Pepis Refuge, Spain

Twiggy pellet 2 Pepis refuge 12 2010 250 This galga had her leg broken and was shot with an air rifle. She is being cared for at Pepis Refuge. This is her story.

‘The galga we have called Twiggy was found at Sado park hotel, Mollina, Malaga. She is 18mth old with a fantastic nature. She had her leg broken so it made it easier to shoot her with an air rifle, one pellet is deep into her stomach which cannot be removed as as an operation is too dangerous. The two pellets in her leg have been removed though the op has left a very large hole in her back leg. We are told she may never walk properly again.

  • Lomas, Ulises and Jerez galgos – Silvia is their guardian angel in Valencia

Lomas[1] Tina 12 2010 250 This is Lomas, a handsome galgo picked up by Tina Solera. He has been to the vet, is now with Silvia in Valencia for treatment for filaria. He was full of ticks too, but the vet thinks, as he is muscular, that he has been running up until recently. He is in a foster home and, when the filaria test is negative, he will be looking for his forever home.

  • Spanish Galgos Ulises, Maisey, Luna from El Paraiso – please donate to vet fees

Naisey after operation 24 11 2010 250 More abandoned and rescued galgos……from the perrera, from the countryside, urbanizations……….they are being abandoned everywhere, and it is only November – still the middle of the Spanish hunting season! One of the galgas rescued from El Paraiso could be pregnant, so an urgent spaying operation has now been carried out. And Maisey, an abandoned injured galga – sadly her leg could not be saved, so she is yet another one with an amputation. And the vet fees need paying!

Ulises was a galgo who had been living rough for months, no one could get near him. Eventually he was so ill he could be caught. He has leishmania, ehrlichia, rickets, a skin condition, but he is a fighter, as are the other two…..he wants to live and experience a forever home.
