  • ACTIN – fighting the war against animal cruelty in Cartagena, Murcia

Viv Wharton and the ACTIN team do incredible work in the Cartagena area of Murcia where animal cruelty among the Spanish is rife. At the moment they are working to close down a municipal dog pound and need all the support they can get, especially to pay their legal and vet fees for the dogs they take out, some of whom are extremely sick. Read about it here and donate to show your support for the incredible work they do. They are setting a precedent in Spain.

  • Life of Hell for dogs in Cartegena, Murcia – Associations please join in to protect them!

Cartegena 1 250 Galgos in south Africa simialr to what I saw in La MagdalenaThis photo is of greyhounds in South Africa. The same thing is going on in Spain with galgos. I’ve received this report and it absolutely sickens me. The Spanish – probably mainly men – in authority turn a blind eye – their hunter ‘brethren’ can get away with torture and murder – BUT let an animal rescue association try to help the dogs. And then there is Hell to Pay from the authorities! Corrupt bastards! Haven’t we had enough of cronyism?!. The majority of them are men, but a few are women. And that sickens me more – they are probably mothers – they give life to a human – they should treasure the birth of life….but life in an animal means nothing to them. They at times are worse than the men!

Cartagena is apparently one of the worst area in Murcia for cruelty against animals.

  • Major boost for welfare of dogs and cats in the EU

Greyhounds Rescue Holland have sent the following information.

‘Just after 12 o’clock on 13/10/2011, GRH received a call from the Liotard team that the Written Declaration on Dog Population Management has been supported by more than half of the Members of the European Parliament. Many volunteers across Europe, amongst whom GRH, have lobbied with their MEP’s to get their support.

This Written Declaration asks for Members States to adopt comprehensive dog population management strategies and anti-cruelty laws, with the aim to harmonise animal welfare standards across the European Union. This marks a significant shift to developing EU legislation in this matter.’
