I witnessed similar ‘training’ when I was there, man on quad bike with 4 galgos. This was made illegal in Andalucia but a couple of years back the Junta rescinded the law.
Regular readers will remember the story of Tico, the galgo badly injured and left for dead in a ditch in Seville Province. Luckily he was found and taken to the vet where the incredible team, together with dedicated round-the-clock care from Sandra Campos Cuevas, brought him back to life and put his poor injured body back together. Over the months it was thought he would never walk, never be without nappies because he was incontinent…Spanish vets more than any others work tirelessly to save these dogs…where certainly in the UK and here in France they would be pts.
I’ve just watched THE most amazing video – sadly only on facebook so I can’t share it with you – of Tico, no nappies, running and playing with two canine friends. Simply incredible. Sandra reports Tico is very happy. The bad news is that once again he has urine infection. It appears that the use of diapers, this problem will always end up appearing. So he needs some antibiotics again. This time at least, it has been 12 days without bleeding. It’s nothing serious … I think it’s an everyday thing for us.

Last week we visited a Dog and Cat Physiotherapist/Osteopath/Re-education with our disabled galgo pup Polar. She was recommended to me by 3 different people at the dog club which I have joined to take Polar for obedience training, as being someone who could help with his mobility problem due to his handicap.
Fazia is a fascinating lady. She is one of very few canine physios in the whole of France – just remember that France is 3 x the size of the UK! France desperately needs more people like Fazia! She covers an area you couldn’t imagine in the UK!
Pesky pup Polar is definitely making his mark in our home – in more ways than one! Here he is practising the Polar Perch – left cheek resting on a nearby chair! The dogs aren’t allowed on the chairs in our living rooms – they have their own chairs in the adjoining barn – so this is Polar’s statement of ‘I’m not actually sitting on the chair!’
He is into everything, including things he shouldn’t be into! His worst misdeed happened when we were out with friends for the evening.

This time Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert are holding a Manifestation on 12th May 2013 for everyone involved in the plight of the galgo, whether it be saving them, healing them, rehoming them, adopting them, starting at 11.30. Desperately urgent help needed. Pepis Dog Refuge, near Seville, has 18 galgos as well as other dogs, two of the galgas have just had pups, about 8 pups each, plus yesterday a hunter arrived at the gates with 5 galgos wanting them to take his dogs. They haven’t room, please can anyone help. Their Internet access is still down, they have to go to the local village to use the Internet. On this link is their address and telephone number. They also need donations towards food and vet bills, and homes for all these dogs. They have 80 dogs there now. Please help.
