Galgos in Training – Seville olive groves

This video was taken by Luca, president of Anpana, the Italian galgo rescue association currently visiting Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera. He took this film on the drive down from the village to the refuge. The second half of the video is taken from Pepis. Check out the speed of the vehicle.

I witnessed similar ‘training’ when I was there, man on quad bike with 4 galgos. This was made illegal in Andalucia but a couple of years back the Junta rescinded the law.

On one of my trips into Spain, we brought out a galga who had gone down and been dragged. Physically and mentally she was in a terrible state, but she survived! She was in foster under vet care for 3 months after the accident before we collected her, regular swimming sessions to help her muscles and tendons. When she was recovered enough, she was adopted in France. If you have a copy of my book ‘From Heaven to Hell – The Story of the Galgo Espanol’, there is a photo of Paca in there.
