  • Galgo puppy Polar’s diary – update

Polar face 250Polar continues to behave like a naughty teenager! 1 year old this month and still collecting asbos every day and showing no evidence of any feeling of pain in his damaged hind leg.

Thank you to everyone who has contacted me with information about their experiences with handicapped dogs and with specialist orthopaedic veterinary practices, a couple of whom I have followed up.

  • Hunting in Spain with galgos – Pepis Dog Refuge offers a safe haven

Pepis Lacey 250The end of the hunting season draws near and the refuges and perreras are full to overflowing with dumped hunting dogs, mainly galgos and podencos. Pepis is no exception and I met many of their galgos when I visited recently. Some of the newest galgos are at the top of this page but scroll right down and you’ll find others like Richardo, Passarella, Dina…who have been waiting too long. Please consider taking one into your home and heart, you will be rewarded with a heap of love.

The latest to join the refuge is stunning white Lacey (above), abandoned and eventually caught by a local hunter and brought to the refuge.

  • Prodeanse, Seville – Galgo puppy saved and needing help

Paula Prodeanse puppy 1 250 1 2014This poor galga has been named Paula, a baby of about 3 months old, taken from a gypsy by Prodeanse, Seville, one of the shelters I visited in 2012. She had vomiting, diarrhea – from which she was dehydrated – and a broken leg. It’s not the first dog that they have taken from this man, who cares very little about his animals.

Prodeanse are asking for your help to pay the vet fees for Paula. The operation to repair her leg will be between 600-700 euros and there is all the medication for her too. Here’s a Bing translation of their appeal.

Loli says, ‘This is what we have to part the operation that will be more than 600 euros and we don’t have the money to pay for it yet. We need your help, it will invoice.

  • Galgo Tico takes a bath – update on beating those who abandoned and injured him

Tiko bath time 250 7 12 2013Tico’s bathtime! Here are words from Sandra.

Tico walked by, panicking, dark road of abandonment and distress, carried away by the swing of steps without any sense, direct to certain death. Suddenly, through the darkness, a light blinded him for a moment, “finally someone coming to my rescue,” he thought. But that illusion vanished, remained a wrenching pain that not only broke bones, but the soul. Suddenly HE shot hundreds of feet and HIS body joined the cold and rough asphalt.

  • Pepis Dog Refuge – thanks to donators

Pepis kennel run 250Back from Spain now. Before I went, I scheduled some articles to publish whilst I was away and I hope you have found them interesting. One of the two refuges we visited was Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera and many of you very kindly sent parcels to me to take down to them. Below is Jane’s message to you all.

The weather was good whilst we were there but after we had left Pepis suffered yet another terrible mud slide all through the kennels and ground floor of the house – on Christmas Day! They have the most wonderful dogs at Pepis – over 70 – and some of them have been there since puppies – 3 or 4 years now (look at beautiful Sandy) – all waiting for forever homes. I’d have brought some of them back for me – except 5 dogs here is enough when taking into account dog food and vet fees/vaccinations etc! Please take a look at their dogs in adoption.

  • Galgo Polar – update on treatment – canine physiotherapy

Polar Carmela bed 1 250 30 10 2013Last week we visited a Dog and Cat Physiotherapist/Osteopath/Re-education with our disabled galgo pup Polar. She was recommended to me by 3 different people at the dog club which I have joined to take Polar for obedience training, as being someone who could help with his mobility problem due to his handicap.

Fazia is a fascinating lady. She is one of very few canine physios in the whole of France – just remember that France is 3 x the size of the UK! France desperately needs more people like Fazia! She covers an area you couldn’t imagine in the UK!
