Little Nana, a tiny galga pup, was found in this miserable state near Seville. She has very severe sarcoptic mange, totally anaemic, high fever and covered with infected wounds all over her little body…. GLORIA an animal lover asked Pro-Galgo for help and they redirected her to their friend and collaborator, vet FATIMA in Seville. Little NANA is on a drip, will have a blood transfusion from another galgo and will stay at least overnight in the clinic. Barely 6 months old, she is fighting for her life. Thrown out as trash and unwanted purpose with a story to tell of being a galga in Spain. Beaten down and feeling low, she wanders and begs, sneaking food where she can. Empty bins may have spilt a crumb, gravel on the floor may just have a grain, its not much to keep going but it could ease the pain. -

The true face of Spanish galgo hunting!
Écija is a city 85kn east of the city of Seville, in the region of Andalucia, one of the 5 regions of Spain where hunting with galgos is legal. It is also the city where this young galga was found. This is the face of Spain which should be transmitted around the world, to combat the claim of the galgueros that they are not cruel to their dogs!
Natalia tells the story. ‘This young galga we have named Isha, a galguita we collected a few days ago near Ecija. You can see she cannot walk, she has no muscles, suffering from severe malnutrition and high leishmania; we have had to hospitalize her to save her life.

Seville galguera threatens disposal of her galgas – any room for them?
Appeal from Seville, a Galguera (female hunter) wants to get rid of these two young galgas, as they are no good for hunting?! Doesn’t look like they have had a decent meal in a while! They are two years old, have their vaccines and cards (EU passport). Not much time left to save them before she takes them to the perrera.

Mairena Killing Station – Petition to close it down
In previous years I’ve featured galgos and podencos dumped in the Mairena killing station (obviously there are thousands of other types of dogs dumped there too which suffer the same horrendous end to their lives). Because of the bad publicity, volunteers were banned from going in to photo the dogs.

The horror of Las Cuadras, Seville – the reality of life for the animals there
L’Europe des Levriers is the French association from whom I adopted my 3 galgos and with whom I have worked on rescues. This is the story of the gypsy camp of Las Cuadras in Seville, as told by their President, Beatrice Monnet, on their website. At the end of this report, you can see a video of the Fundacion Benjamin Menhert on one of their rescues – 600 dogs taken out of the camp in one year!
‘Since its inception in 2006, L’Europe des Levriers has repeatedly denounced the terrible camp galgueros Las Cuadras in Seville. Cristina, our Vice President, regularly rescues galgos and podencos from this hell. We go to our kennels in Madrid every 3 or 4 months to bring these rescued dogs to France for adoption.

Seville – Desperately Urgent to save this galgo from the streets

Urgent call – Seville – galgo puppy abandoned, anyone room for it?

Seville, galgo pup rescued from rubbish bin!
This little galgo pup was rescued from a rubbish bin in Seville. She is about 2 months old, has been named Bebe and is now in a special shelter for puppies, costing 4 euros/day. Help is now needed to find this little girl a foster and adoption home. If anyone can help, please contact direct.
