In previous years I’ve featured galgos and podencos dumped in the Mairena killing station (obviously there are thousands of other types of dogs dumped there too which suffer the same horrendous end to their lives). Because of the bad publicity, volunteers were banned from going in to photo the dogs.
There is now an on-line petition to close the place down. This is the link. The petition is in Spanish and a translation is below. You have to register with the petition website, here are the instructions by on-line translator:

Translation of the petition
The signatories we demand the closure of the facilities of the society of cruelty to animals and plants IN SEVILLE , (S. P. A. P.S. ), whose president is Pedro Luis Fernández Castle ; as well as the award to authentic equally animalistic strife, the management of some facilities worthy, where the harboring and truly protects animals abandoned or lost from the Sevillian Aljarafe .
We Want To denounce this place is a false protection society. It is simply a center of extermination
The signatories demand the closure of the premises of the society protective of animals and plants of Seville, (S.P.A.P.S.), whose Chairman is Pedro Luis Fernández Castillo; as well as the award to authentic advocacy of decent facilities management, where it avails itself and actually protects the animals abandoned or lost of Aljarafe Sevillano.
We denounce that this place is a false protection society. It is simply a killing Center, under contract for a large number of municipalities. It has had numerous allegations made against it for at least 11 years, for all kinds of irregularities.
Animals do not receive any veterinary attention, kill them with anectina which causes suffering and a cruel death and feed little and badly, despite having the funds to take care of them and keep them optimally.
It receives public money from many municipalities and private donations from people of good faith, who believe that they are giving money to save dogs and cats. To make matters worse, they are not interested in managing adoptions. there are many impediments, and visitors/volunteers pay dearly for rescuing animals and now are not allowed to take pictures to highlight the unfortunate poor animals waiting there, in the corridor of death, the worst possible end.

I have hopefully signed the petition as it would be fantastic news if this killing station was closed down for good. Just hope there are enough rescues to sa ve and rehome these lovely dogs and cats.

heart breaking yet once again there is a reason for every life on this earth i beleive mine is to have my heart broken over and over again just like a lot of people with same reason as mine hope they all make it
MIla is my galgo fosterdog for 3 monds now.She was rescued from a killingstation.A terrible place.She was so scared when she came to live with us temporarely.
Now she blossemed, she is happy, enjoyes life again.
My very stabel older galgo helps her to get over her fear.
I think its terrible whats happening in Spain.
We must not forget that in Spain there are many volenteers working to get a better life for the galgo.
We hope that there wil be a chanche in mentality soon.

this is disgusting, brutal + totally very wicked, do you people responsible have no care in your hearts for the suffering you are causing to those who did not ask to be born + cannot speak for themselves, do you not realize how much now us, the people, all over the world can see + hear + get to know the atrocities that are inflicted on the animals in your country, more + more are getting to find out + raising very strong objections to the non existent animal welfare care in a so called ‘christian’ country. The dogs are treated like rubbish, to be disposed of any where-any way in these dreadful ‘killing stations’,laws must be made + adhered to to change all treatment of the animals there + as soon as possible. THE SUFFERING MUST BE STOPPED!!!!
