  • Scooby takes 50 Galgos & podencos from Castilla La Mancha…

Scooby 50 Castilla la Mancha 1 2016 250From Fermin Perez Martin, president of Scooby refuge.

‘In a few weeks the hunting season with galgos will come to an end and that means that now already shelters and perreras are completely full with galgos, discarded by their owner who just considers them a bad working tool and nothing more…

Scooby will take the next couple weeks hundreds of galgos and podencos in to save them from being killed in a perrera or waiting for years and years in shelters because nobody adopts them.

  • A hell of a life for a galgo in Spain

Madrigal galgo championships 250 10 1 2015From a post by Jack Leonard on my Save the Galgos page on facebook

‘This coming weekend of January 10 will begin the long awaited Spanish National Championship for the Galgo in the village of Madrigal de las Altas Torres. Thousands upon thousands of galgos have been competing this season all for the foolish dreams of their owners that they will produce the Champion of Spain. The competition is now down to a handful of dogs and the excitement is building.

Castilla la Mancha running galgos 7 2014 250The galgo hunting federation in Castilla la Mancha have requested the Junta to allow this cruel practice of ‘training’ galgos from motorised vehicles. I have first-hand experience of a galga who went down and was dragged – Paca is in my galgo book, for those of you who have bought it. Please sign this Amigos de los Galgos also writes on the following action she has taken. (google translation)

  • Scooby – saving souls in Spain

Scooby Valladolid galgos 250 22 1 2014This week Scooby added 3 more galgos to the hundreds they have waiting for forever homes. Here’s what Cobie writes.

    ‘Cobie Steketee

So, at last all the surviving dogs from the shit hole perrera from Mairena have been taken out of that hell. From what I understand it was a big chaos, somebody opened doors from cages and with an open gate at that time, some 30 dogs escaped, it seems that still some galgos are running free there in the neighbourhood.

  • The heartwarming story of galgos Gracie & Jake –

Jake_and_Gracie_1 190With all the horror stories recently, it’s lovely to receive a heartwarming story of two galgos who found their forever home in the heart of Kathryn and her husband. Here she tells Gracie and Jake’s Story.

I first found out about galgos seven years ago when I was reading about rescue dogs on the internet. I came across the Greyhounds in Need website and read all about the galgos. I had never heard of the galgos and their plight and what I read was heartbreaking. I thought that my husband and I would be able to give a galgo a good home and contacted GIN to say that we were interested.

We had a home check and GIN said that we were suitable. They had some galgos coming across from Spain and they would be in quarantine in the UK and we could visit them.

  • A letter to Senor Galguero…

To Senor Galguero, from Beryl Brennan

I woke up ANGRY this morning. And it’s YOUR fault.

    Why?

I’m a writer; I write for newspapers, magazines, websites. I’d like to write more books – I’ve got plenty of ideas, but not the time. I used to get paid for my writing. Now, writing about anything other than galgos and podencos has taken a very back seat, so I lay the drop in my income firmly at your door. Because I don’t earn any money writing about galgos and podencos, I do it because I must, for these innocent souls. That’s for starters.

  • Huelva, Spain – injured galgo on the street desperately needing help

Huelva galgo 250 20 8 2012This galgo has been on the streets of Huelva for some months, as it was difficult to catch. As you can see, its rear hind paw is injured and it has many woulds on its body, as well as ticks. A woman has been finally able to gain its trust, take it home and treat the ticks, but she cannot keep it there, as she has no room – she has 6 dogs and her son is against it.

It desperately needs getting off the street and the paw and wounds treating. It lives with a mastiff, is submissive, calm but nervous of people. With the woman it now accepts caresses.

Can anyone take this boy – they’ve named him Triston. Please contact Paloma urgently.
