  • Spanish Galgo Ruso – getting better with GRIN in America

Ruso 1 Tina 200 Do you remember this boy? A rough-haired galgo badly injured in a road accident, taken to Los Infiernos refuge. He was left like this, in pain, for a few days and the owners of the refuge were going to have him euthanaised. Then Tina Solera found him (there’s 200 dogs at the refuge!) and immediately took him to the vet where he was operated on and went into foster care.

In November he travelled with two members of GRIN to the US where he is now in foster care, preparatory to him finding his forever home. He has a problem on his front elbows as a result of lying on concrete floors. They are called ‘hygromas’, and you will see the swellings in the photo.

  • Galgos del Sol – Sponsor a Kennel and donate to rescued galgos

Tina & Ulises 2010 200 Galgos del Sol is a new association in Murcia, founded by Tina Solera and her friend Gaynor. 5 Kennels are currently nearly completed – free labour, donated materials. These kennels will house the galgos which Tina is rescuing – everywhere she drives, there seems to be an abandoned galgo! Funds are desperately needed to pay for microchipping, vaccinating, castrating and feeding these galgos – donations to buy food especially needed at the moment.

Sponsor a Kennel is a scheme set up by Tina to help with running costs. From just 3 euros a month – more if you can afford it – you will get an update on the galgos in your particular kennel, their progress and efforts to rehome. We’re all feeling the pinch in the recession, rescued animals most of all. If you can help, please email Tina direct for information on how to Sponsor a Kennel.

  • Spanish Galgo Felix finds his forever home in Holland

Here’s a nice Happy Ending story about Felix, a galgo from El Refugio Escuelo, rehomed in Holland by Galgo Support Holland.

Felix: “If I could save at least one”

Many years ago I heard about the terrible things that happen to the dogs in Spain. It broke my heart and I sat at the computer looking for ways to relieve some pain.
Thus I began donating money to local associations greyhound rescue and made little things to sell and raise money for the associations.

  • Cadiz, no Spanish holiday for the galgos living here

News came in last week about this galga taken to a vet for urgent medical treatment. It is suspected that the wounds were caused by a dog fight. Because of their calm non-aggressive nature, galgos are often used as bait to train fighting dogs! It is possible her uteris and womb are damaged, she has been operated on and is now in a foster home in Cadiz.

  • Abandoned and dying in Murcia – help save him – donate to vet fees

Tina galgo Ulysees b4 capture 15 11 2010 250 Tina Solera has been out catching a galgo again! Seems to be every day there is an abandoned galgo which crosses her path, even 2! And it’s not even near the end of the hunting season. What is wrong, what is happening that all these abandoned galgos are still being found?

This one was in a very poor state; Tina took advice from other experienced volunteers and finally managed to catch him and take him to her vet. (Bear in mind she has young school age children to see to whilst saving galgos!) This is what she says.
