Spanish Galgo Felix finds his forever home in Holland

Here’s a nice Happy Ending story about Felix, a galgo from El Refugio Escuelo, rehomed in Holland by Galgo Support Holland.

Felix: “If I could save at least one”

Many years ago I heard about the terrible things that happen to the dogs in Spain. It broke my heart and I sat at the computer looking for ways to relieve some pain.
Thus I began donating money to local associations greyhound rescue and made little things to sell and raise money for the associations.

I visited a lot of websites of various associations in which I saw hundreds and hundreds of terrible stories and sad looking dogs. It was so horrible I had to look away.

After the death of our beloved German shepherd we were left with our small Brechtje and thought it would still take a long time to have another dog. But a couple of years later the need to share life with a big dog came, so I went to the sites where the eye was sad and I thought if I could only save one.

But on the other hand I felt bad for our little old man of 12 years and did not know what to do.

Then I visited the Galgo Support Holland website and saw photos of a blonde galgo named Felix. It was love at first sight! I followed the story of Felix: I knew he had been in the shelter a long time waiting and every time I saw videos on Youtube, I could not stop crying. It seemed incredible that a dog that had suffered move his tail for joy every time someone stroked.

Shortly after I read that Felix was adopted, the news made me happy but I must confess that I felt sad for having lost out…

We went on vacation and upon returning I found that Felix was back again for adoption! I screamed with excitement. It was clear that we had to adopt Felix!

On November 7 Anja of Galgo Support Holland crossed the doors of the airport with two rescued dogs from Spain and one was our sweet and dear Felix!

He came, looked at us and won us over! It’s wonderful, so sweet and so loving!

He slept the whole way to house and met our little Brechtje. At first they barked but only 3 days later they were friends and even sharing a bed.

Felix is a happy dog and I’ve never met an animal so grateful. Happy with what it is: a touch, a toy, a treat …

Everybody loves him, amazing!

He has given us so much love and happiness that we are grateful to have him at home.
Many thanks to El Refugio-Escuela and Galgo Support and Holland!’

I have only recently learned of the sadistic abuse, tortures, and murders of these beautiful animals God Created.
Thank you for giving Felix another chance and sparing him from certain death.

We have rescued our beautiful podenco he is the most amazing dog, we have rescued many dogs over the years and we still have 5. Our Barnie is the most intelligent dog ever however a 20 thousand euro wall was built and i still live in fear he will make it over a 7 foot wall but he seeems happy with his pack. The cruelty to this partuclar breed in spain is truly appalling and I do what i can, only a few months ago a dog was hanged not far from where we live live in Moraira a tourist town on the costa blanca, luckily for the poor dog some lovely german people cut him down just in time, how schoking is that. Anyway support for the podenco is important here in spain as it is for other animals. So lets all keep doing our bestit. Many spanish people do not think this, but certain sections of society truly do believe these animals are worthless.
