    I would’ve died that day if not for you
    I would’ve given up on life if not for your kind eyes

  • Galgos on Spanish TV – Asociaion Baas Galgo speaks out

    Sandra Baas of Baas Asociacion was on the largest Spanish TV channel on 17th January, talking about the plight of the galgos and adoption. You can watch it here, but be prepared to wait about 19 minutes whilst there are other news items first. Well done, Sandra.

  • Starving, injured, escapee from hanging……the horror continues

    Starving galgo Ayendena  250 10 03 2011 Every day more horror stories come in from Spain, abandoned, injured and starving galgos – and the hunters still deny it goes on! Three appeals for help, if anyone can squeeze any of these dogs into a shelter or foster home, please contact the people direct.

    1. Galgo rescued by the Association AYANDENA in Seville, the greyhound is more dead than alive, with horrendous injuries to his hind leg, flesh is missing down to the bone. He urgently needs care, need help with veterinary costs. Irene Alcayde de Lamo

  • Seville galgos, another 33 arrive at Scooby Medina

    Seville galgos 33 arrive 14 02 2011 250 More of the 100 galgos rescued from Seville have arrived at the Scooby Medina refuge. Here’s what Cobie says.

    ‘Last week arrived the first 33 galgos from another 100 from Seville, the rest will come this week. I´ll send you pictures of them and also pictures from 2 galgos of this group who have burn marks on their thighs, This is something the gypsies do, like a kind of microchip but more painfull for the poor dogs. They do it with acid from batteries or with a hot iron like with horses or cows.

    El Seprona rescues 24 galgos in very poor hygienic and sanitary condition. Owner accused of falsifying their health cards and illegally vaccinating

    The Service for the Protection of Nature of the Guardia Civil (Seprona) has rescued 24 dogs from a rural property in Parla that were in “very poor sanitary conditions, ” accusing the owner of the animals for falsifying the health files and vaccinated illegally.

  • Scooby needs collars to sell – can you help?

    Galgo collar 250 With the hundreds of animals to care for, especially the lastest 130 galgos from Cadiz, Scooby is desperately needs to raise funds. Here’s a plea from Diane at Scooby.

    Dear Friends,

    The Scooby Shop at the shelter is in desperate need of fancy martingale collars. The shelter sells these collars to make money for the animals in the shelter. They are a huge hit at events and Scooby Open House Days as well as on adoption days. As you can imagine, they look beautiful on the Galgos!

  • Spanish galgo Nicolas, wounded and dying on the street – Baas Galgo to the rescue

    Nicolas 1 Baas Galgo 01 2011 250 How did you spend Xmas and the New Year? Thousands of galgos spent theirs either dumped in a killing station waiting to die, or abandoned, searching for food and shelter. The Spanish volunteers didn’t have time off. This is the story of Nicolas, rescued from pain and death by Rachel and Silvia on Christmas Eve, supported by Baas Galgo.   • Jerez perrera, Cadiz – another dozen galgos dumped yesterday!

    Good news about the second batch of galgos in the Jerez perrera. 6 are going to Valencia for care and rehoming, 4 are going to Malaga for care and rehoming and two are going together to their forever home in the UK. Holly and Faith, as they have been named, became bosom buddies when they were both rescued by Dioni. Their EU passport is now being prepared and then they will travel together into quarantine kennels in the UK, where their adopting family (who have been involved in greyhound rescue for decades) will be able to spend time getting to know them, preparing them to join the rest of their canine family.

  • Spanish Galgo Felix finds his forever home in Holland

    Here’s a nice Happy Ending story about Felix, a galgo from El Refugio Escuelo, rehomed in Holland by Galgo Support Holland.

    Felix: “If I could save at least one”

    Many years ago I heard about the terrible things that happen to the dogs in Spain. It broke my heart and I sat at the computer looking for ways to relieve some pain.
    Thus I began donating money to local associations greyhound rescue and made little things to sell and raise money for the associations.

  • 130 Galgos from Seville to Scooby Medina!

    Eva has sent this appeal on behalf of Scooby Medina. They are taking 130 galgos in over the course of the next month and need all sorts of help. Here’s what she says.

    ‘Over the next few weeks we will be rescuing 130 galgos from Seville. We are asking you for your help in every way possible.We require volunteers, vet volunteers, food, medicine and monetary donations. And of course, in the end the most important thing is to get the dogs in the shelter adopted. If you can donate any of these items, please let us know. We are doing three transport this month so we would be able to pick up any donations that are collected.
