Jerez perrera, Cadiz – another dozen galgos dumped yesterday!

Good news about the second batch of galgos in the Jerez perrera. 6 are going to Valencia for care and rehoming, 4 are going to Malaga for care and rehoming and two are going together to their forever home in the UK. Holly and Faith, as they have been named, became bosom buddies when they were both rescued by Dioni. Their EU passport is now being prepared and then they will travel together into quarantine kennels in the UK, where their adopting family (who have been involved in greyhound rescue for decades) will be able to spend time getting to know them, preparing them to join the rest of their canine family.

I can tell you, a few of us working ‘behind the scenes’ at GN have wept tears of join about this story!

But the nightmare for the galgos continues. Today more pictures in of another dozen or so galgos dumped at the Jerez perrera to be killed in a few days. Here they are.

If anyone else considers adopting one of these dogs, the costs involved should be noted. There will be vet fees for preparing the EU passport including microchip, vaccination, castration, blood tests for Mediterranean diseases, blood test after 30 days for rabies antibodies, then 6 months quarantine either in a foster home or in kennels in the UK. Also to add onto this is the cost of transporting the dog to the UK from Spain.
