  • Seville galgos, Cuenca galgos, Albacete galgo – abandoned by galgueros Anyone help?

Seville galgos 1 31 03 2011 250 Please can anyone squeeze in these two temporarily, the galguero is going to get rid of them….he doesn’t say how. Puri says ‘I have no room, he is giving me until Monday to do something. I have offered a refuge that can take care of them in terms of veterinary and other expenses but do not have room, so I need shelter for two.’

  • 4 month old galgo puppy – help Baas Galgo with her recovery

Marisol 2 Sandra Bas 12 2010 250 This is Marisol, the latest victim of cruelty and abandon taken in by the BaasGalgo Association. Weep with me for the suffering of this little creature and for the courage of Leticia who has her in her care.

‘Marisol is only four months old and already she is suffering from severe rickets, scabies, mange, malnutrition, bone problems, and to top it all she has a bad fever and her condition is critical. Marisol was found on the morning of the 9th of December in front of the entrance to the LIDL supermarket in Torrijos (Toledo).

  • Jerez perrera, Cadiz – another dozen galgos dumped yesterday!

Good news about the second batch of galgos in the Jerez perrera. 6 are going to Valencia for care and rehoming, 4 are going to Malaga for care and rehoming and two are going together to their forever home in the UK. Holly and Faith, as they have been named, became bosom buddies when they were both rescued by Dioni. Their EU passport is now being prepared and then they will travel together into quarantine kennels in the UK, where their adopting family (who have been involved in greyhound rescue for decades) will be able to spend time getting to know them, preparing them to join the rest of their canine family.

  • Christmas Holiday in Seville? Not for the galgos nor the volunteers.

Fermin Perez 12 2010 170 This is the story behind the 130 galgos arriving at Scooby Medina during the course of December. Cobie and Vera explain.

In Andalucia in southern Spain, the Foundation Benjamin Mehnert association is very actively busy with saving galgos which are, in the eyes of their owners “worthless for hunting” and will, no matter what, get rid of them one way or another. Thousands are brought every year to the perreras, the killing stations, also called the waiting room for death, where their life is not worth one penny and so they are treated like that.

  • Canicross in Murcia – Tina and galgo Guapo over the finishing line!

Start line! 250 Tina’s done it – she’s run her first Canicross today. Here’s what she says.

‘We have done the canicross. We had a great day although was almost a non starter for us when the race organisers thought it was a good idea to let off a few cannons……. yep, clever stuff as the dogs went crazy and Guapo pulled me over on a bank he was so scared and then spent 1/2hr shivering. Well we got to the start line and once we were off, he really enjoyed it. We came 12th overall but not sure out of how many, I will wait for results! Thanks for all the sponsors!

  • French bastard dumps a neglected little dog in our courtyard in Deux-Sévres

Lost Dog 10.2010 003 250 I call the Spanish hunters bastards, but some of the French are bastards too, as are so many of the English at the moment. We went out on our horses yesterday – the first time since May, as we don’t ride during the summer, it’s too hot and there are too many flies. We returned to find that someone had dumped a little dog in our enclosed courtyard whilst we had been out! I guess he is a X Bichon Frisée – cute little dogs but their coats need daily attention. This one could never have had a comb or brush near him! I’ll post pix of what we cut off him.
