French bastard dumps a neglected little dog in our courtyard in Deux-Sévres

Lost Dog 10.2010 003 250 I call the Spanish hunters bastards, but some of the French are bastards too, as are so many of the English at the moment. We went out on our horses yesterday – the first time since May, as we don’t ride during the summer, it’s too hot and there are too many flies. We returned to find that someone had dumped a little dog in our enclosed courtyard whilst we had been out! I guess he is a X Bichon Frisée – cute little dogs but their coats need daily attention. This one could never have had a comb or brush near him! I’ll post pix of what we cut off him.

The vet confirmed he has no microchip or tattoo – where have we heard that before! – he’s not castrated and is about 3-4 years old. He’s an affectionate friendly little dog – so it’s a case of neglect of coat, not of maltreatment or starvation. But whichever French villager chose to do this to us, chose the wrong person! Tomorrow the Maire will get a visit from me!

UPDATE – I let the little dog out into the courtyard today as it was nice and sunny. He had a good scamper around, I think especially because he wasn’t carrying around a load of matted hair! I popped inside to answer the telephone and when I went back outside to put the little dog on a lead to go and visit the Maire, he had disappeared! No sign of him anywhere! And the gate to the courtyard had been tampered with! We’ve searched around, asked the neighbours, no sign of him. I just hope whoever has taken him will give him the home he deserves. But it is worrying that someone has been in and out of our courtyard, we will have to lock the gates again.

    Hi Tina
He was out wandering in our enclosed courtyard today, in the sunshine, and disappeared. We dont know where he got out! Which means the courtyard is not Bebe-proof! Have looked in the village but nowhere about. At least the weather is fine, maybe he will find his way back to where he was taken from.

Well now that you cleaned him all up, im sure someone will pick him up and hopefully sort him. Little dogs are amazing escape artists. Can’t believe someone ditched him like that on you. Why dont people take responsilbilty for themselves!

    Hi Tina
Dont know if it is the same in Spain, but here in
France, Brits are vulnerable to French people abandoning their animals on them –
I count ourselves lucky that, in 8 and a half years, this is the first time
someone has done it to us. And the sad thing is, a friend of mine who
recently lost her husband to cancer contacted me yesterday afternoon to come and
see him with a view to adopting him. Hed have been perfect for
    her!
Thanks for all you do for the galgos – any news on
the one with a cord round its netck?
