BIG POLICE INTERVENTION – REFUGIO KIMBA 48 ANIMALS SAVED
Refugio Kimba is one of the longest established animal shelters in Spain. Here’s the latest news about their work.
FINALLY THE END OF THE HELL.
On Monday 6th of February, the SPAP Refugio Kimba collaborated with Seprona Police (Guardia Civil) by rescuing 48 animals abandoned in horrendous conditions in Chiclana, Cadiz. The images were terrible, I think we will not be able to forget that scene ever in our whole life.
The smell was awful, corpses’ smells, we could not avoid tears just thinking how many dog would have died in that hell. It was really difficult to breath and be in a good mood, but we had to be so strong be possible in order to save all the animals. Their cries and moans were breaking our souls.

Refugio Kimba, Cadiz – risking life and limb on the Spanish motorways
There has been no let up for the volunteers in Spain – every week dozens of galgos end up in perreras for killing – it’s gone on all summer – no let-up. New stories and appeals arrive every day. This is the story of one galga, Eboli. Abandoned by her galguero to take her chance on the busy roads, she was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured. Luckily volunteers from Refugio Kimba of Cadiz, the very first Spanish animal protectora, went out to rescue her, not without risk to their own safety. You can read the story and see the video of her rescue (more…)

HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY Galgo News
(My galgas Sahara & Carmela sharing a bed today!) Yes, it’s 5 years today since my webmaster Craig and I launched Galgo News. We’ve travelled a long way in those 5 years – published many different stories – happy stories, sad stories, rehomings, appeals, letter-writing campaigns – whatever has been sent to me, I’ve read and published most of it. I’ve only had to remove one post, where people commenting then launched a personal attack on two volunteers in Spain. I won’t countenance libel, so the post was removed. I still have it on file, as the subject matter is important, and one day it may raise its ugly head again.
I’m grateful to all of you lovely readers who have bought copies of my book to learn more about the plight of the galgo; you’ve responded well to appeals for donations towards vet care for sick and injured galgos, and many of you have offered forever homes to hundreds of the galgos featured on Galgo News and associations I publicise. You are marvellous and I feel sure that the volunteers and associations feel the same.

Cadiz galgos – seized from poachers – placements needed
Urgently need somewhere for these 3 galgos, all female, to go. They are in Cadiz, seized from poachers. Contact corilayka@gmail.com
And I’ll add a note here that hunting is due to start next month, hunters are advertising puppies for sale at 50 euros on Milanuncios, and yet the perreras still have dozens and dozens of young healthy galgos on death row. At times I simply can’t keep up with posting them all – however do the volunteers cope.

Jerez, Cadiz – abandoned on the streets to starve
It seems to me that the abandoned dogs problem is Spain is qorse this year than ever…I’ve not reported on situations like the 74 in Murcia, then another 120 in Murcia, plus the 150 in Cuenca…..and that’s not counting the hundreds in the perreras. And now more. A galga and a podenco on the streets of Jerez, Cadiz. The galga looks pregnant. Can anyone squeeze them in somewhere? Contact Maribel maribeljerezsos2@gmail.com

‘We have taken 14 of the Gesser galgos and 20 went to Fundacion Benjamin
Mehnert near Seville. With other associations, a total of 48 galgos have been saved recently from Gesser.’Remember, they will all need forever homes. Please contact the associations direct on the links above, if you can help in any way, including donations for vet fees.
