Refugio Kimba is one of the longest established animal shelters in Spain. Here’s the latest news about their work.
FINALLY THE END OF THE HELL.
On Monday 6th of February, the SPAP Refugio Kimba collaborated with Seprona Police (Guardia Civil) by rescuing 48 animals abandoned in horrendous conditions in Chiclana, Cadiz. The images were terrible, I think we will not be able to forget that scene ever in our whole life.
The smell was awful, corpses’ smells, we could not avoid tears just thinking how many dog would have died in that hell. It was really difficult to breath and be in a good mood, but we had to be so strong be possible in order to save all the animals. Their cries and moans were breaking our souls.
All the animals inside the house were in severe neglect conditos, lot of them together in same kennel, on their own excrement, no space to move, no water, no food, some of then nearly dead.
We started filling any kind of buckets with water, they all were severely dehydrated, and they all starting to drink desperately. Also even the police could not control their tears faced with the suffering of those animals.
In this big intervention we saved 42 dogs, 3 cats, a pony, a horse and a donkey. We took under the protection of SPAP Refugio Kimba 15 dogs, the most injured, the ones in the worst condition in order to hospitalize them inmediately. Our vet was already waiting for us in the shelter to carry out the vet check-up one to one and decide which ones should be driven to the vet hospital and stay there.
This big intervention started one week ago when the Council of Chiclana asked us for help , We said yes inmediately but always if the owner of that house was punished and make him legally unable to have animals forever.
We have been waiting for this police intervention for a long time. The court and pólice had already thousands of complaints from many animal protection societies, neighbours and individuals. This big amount of complainrs prompted the judicial permission, which allowed the police to finally opening the doors and go inside the house.
In this images, Winston, the big white galgo, the one who cries at the beginning of the film, he is still hospitalized with a grave diagnosis. The black one with such a big wound is called Ginger, she stayed one day in hospital, currently with a foster family.
We wish this rescue will mean that the Authorities in Spain will in future take action and work on this kind of intervention, they should come to the conclusión that these sort of cases should be implemented with efficiency, quickier above all. It would be the only way to avoid suffering, torture and death. They should also strengthen the law and penalize heavily this kind of crime. If the court does it properly, we would never reach such a terrible number of animals in a rescue again. It is really difficult for a prívate animal protection society to afford the guardianship of 15 dogs at same time because of the space needed and above all for the high vet expenses.
We beg you all for help. Please help us with the dogs rescue expenses.

This is terrible, don’t think I can watch the video but I will definitely make a donation via paypal, I get paid next week.
Please, is it possible to have an update on the big white galgo? I know I haven’t watched the video but I just keep thinnking of my Jake who was a terribly abused big white galgo.
I hope this revolting person is punished and is NEVER allowed to own animals again.
RIP poor souls who didn’t make it.
Hi Kathryn. I´m in contact with the shelter, and they tell me that the big white galgo you see first in the video is named Winston. He has been to the vet and is now in fostercare. He is very thin, he has Filariosis/he´s heart is full of worms and makes it difficult to breathe well. But after this first week he is already better and goes to the vet often to be checked <3 I´m sure you are welcome to write to them in the facebook page.
