  • Gesser Galgos – Pro-Galgo & Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert to the rescue

Gesser Galgos Pro Galgo 240 2 2012I’m pleased to be able to tell you all that Pro-Galgo and Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert have taken the latest batch of galgos at Gesser killing station, Jerez. You can see the photos of some of them here, by the fireside at Pro-Galgo. Sadly, as President of Pro-Galgo Mo Swatek says, their places will soon be taken up by dozens more.

‘We have taken 14 of the Gesser galgos and 20 went to Fundacion Benjamin
Mehnert near Seville. With other associations, a total of 48 galgos have been saved recently from Gesser.’

Remember, they will all need forever homes. Please contact the associations direct on the links above, if you can help in any way, including donations for vet fees.

On the link above, you can also read the story of Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert rescuing dogs from a village of drug addicts.

  • Injured Galgo in Cadiz, can an association take him and heal him?

Galgo eye 1 250 1 2 2012This poor soul is in Barbate, Cadiz. He is very thin and, as you can see, has an eye out. Surprisingly he is willing to get n a car, he is not too afraid, wags his tail a bit. The problem is that the volunteer has not the funds to pay for the operation needed on the eye. She desperately needs a foster home for him, and an association to take care of the eye operation with their vet. Please, is there an association anywhere who will take this poor boy in and save what is left of his eye. Goodness knows what caused this damage.

If you can take him, please contact Helena 657133551 helenamalia89@gmail.com

  • Galgos, dumped, abandoned, unwanted, and hunting has only just started!

Scooby galgos in perrera 170 10 2011The dumping of galgos continues, increasing now as the hunters abandon the dogs which don’t make it as hunters, breeding bitches etc. Cobie of Scooby asks (on Facebook) ‘Why do they bring them to a perrera where they will be killed after 21 days and not 40 km. further to Scooby where they are safe?? I will never understand that. Anyway, this morning I took from the perrera in Simancas these 3 female beauties which can be taken of from the deathlist now and certainly will be adopted very soon to live a happy life with a loving family. They are young, beautiful and very, very sweet!’

And 8 more in the Gesser killing station, Cadiz; some of them have been reserved. But you can see from the pictures how frightened they are, not understanding why they are there. I suppose the only good thing we can say about the galguerros dumping them at the killing station is that it is better than hanging them, dumping on motorways or dropping down wells.
