Portuguese Galga Joy – waiting for her forever home
Introducing galga Joy, abandoned on the streets in Portugal, rescued by Portugal Dog Rescue, who also rescued Estrela, and is in foster with Gabi, who describes her character.
‘Joy is a wonderful reddish brown colour, 2 years old. She was very sad and thin, with bad skin when she arrived. She is affectionate and playful, walks well on the lead, but is still nervous out on the street. She also tested positive for leishmania, but this was soon treated and now she is on 150mg Alopurinol twice a day. She will need to be tested again in 6 months’ time.
Oh, I love this dog, just look at her!’
If you can offer Joy the forever home she deserves, please contact Portugal Dog Rescue or Gabi

Portugal Dog Rescue – Galga Estrela’s rescuers need help
Do you remember the story of Estrela, the galga in Portugal suffering at the hands of an alcoholic an drug addict wife? Teresa de Sousa and her team did an incredible job rescuing Estrela, another galga, and their puppies. Teresa badly needs funds to build some kennels to keep sick dogs separate from the healthy ones. She needs 350 euros – not a fortune. Please help her achieve her goal. Here are the details, you can donate by Paypal or credit card.
Update on Estrela. She is doing well in foster care, EU passport prepared, and it looks like she is going to come to me in France for temporary foster en route for her forever home in the UK. Teresa and Ines thank you all for your donations which helped them save the lives of the two galgas and their puppies.

Update on Estrela – one of the Portugal galgas
This morning I had the most wonderful news! Do you remember the story of the Portugal galgas, producing puppies, owned by an alcoholic with a druggy wife? Teresa and Ines were desperately trying to save the galgas and puppies – the owner was busy drowning the puppies! You were all marvellous at donating to Teresa to purchase special food and milk for these hounds, whilst she worked patiently to get the dogs away from this living hell.
Here’s Ines’ news – 8th December 2012!
‘Estrela was allowed to leave her hell-hole today, Teresa has just literally been to pick her up. I’ve attached a few pics taken 3 hours ago, tonight Estrela will have her first taste of freedom, will get more pics tomorrow when is light again.

Latest news on galga Estrela – fighting the odds in Portugal
You will be upset to learn that Estrela, the Portuguese galga owned by an alcoholic, is still hanging onto life in horrendous conditions, suffering from pneumonia, but Teresa and Ines are able to feed her the high protein diet paid for by donations, and to feed her surviving puppies. They are still hoping to rescue the galga and save her.

Update on the Portuguese Galga
Portuguese galga – Ines updates 21/10/2012. ‘Today has been a good day.
Estrela’s owner handed over another pup, a girl this time (24’s sister), because she was too small for his liking; she is being hand-reared by a volunteer and is doing fine (pics below). Thanks to your appeal in the galgo page, and generous donations, we have managed to buy the mum a 15Kg bag of Royal canin special lactating mother feed, which she desperately needed. Some people have offered to send milk as well, so that will be very helpful.
